VETERANS’ NEWS
DEADLINE EXTENDED
The deadline for reinstating
National Service Life Insurance
under liberal regulations now in
effect has been extended through
next July, the Veterans Adminis-
tration announced this week.
The previous deadline had.
been pecember 31, 1947.
Veterans can reinstate on this
liberal basis providing their
health is as good now as it was
at the time their insurance lapsed.
They also must pay two monthly
premiums, one for ;the month of
lapse, and the other for the
month of reinstatement.
After next July, veterans will
have to take physical examina-
tions before their policies can be
reinstated. Many of them may
not be insurable, VA said.
D. C. Pray, Director of VA’s
Insurance Service for Texas,
Louisiana and Mississippi, said
the extension probably will ac-
celerate the trend of reinstate-
ments which has been mounting
all year.
“Since last February,” he re-
ported, “More than 73,000 World
War II veterans in this tri-state
area have reinstated policies
worth more than $511,000,000.”
Contributes $1,000
To Bush Collection
Mrs. Ruth G. Bush, widow of
the late W. H. Bush, has given
$1,000.00 to the William H. Bush
Collection of Western Books at
the Amarillo Public Libra,ry.
Books which have been published
previously to 1900 only are elig-
ible for purchase in the collection.
As Mrs. Bush has generally
made annualy gifts to the fund,
it has been large enough to pur-
chase a number or books yearly.
David M. Warren of Panhandle
is a trustee of the Collection In-
formation of the new donations
was recieved from Frank T.
O’Brien, her son-in_law.
