THAT JESUS IS THE CHRIST
“And many other signs
truly did Jesus in the presence
of his disciples, which are not
written in this book: But these
are written, that ye might
believe that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of God; and that
believing ye might have life
through His name.” (John
20:30,31)
John says that recording all
the works of Jesus would be an
impossible task. Without a
doubt, the WORKS of Jesus
would fill a thousand
congressional libraries, yet his
WORDS ALONE would hardly
make a vest pocket edition.
However, HIS WORDS
ALONE are enough to
establish Him as the only
begotten Son of the God of the
universe!
Some yet proclaim that He
was just a man, but the facts
are to the contrary. His birth
was contrary to the laws of
life. His death was contrary to
the laws of death. He had no
cornfields of fisheries, but He
could spread a table for five
thousand and have bread and
fish to spare. He walked on no
beautiful carpets or velvet rugs,
but He did walk on the waters
of the Sea of Galilee.
I believe that this is that
which people, young and older,
are seeking today. People are
searching for faith - something
in which they can trust —
something for which they can
go to battle - something that
can fill the emptiness in the
hearts of humanity —
something that can bring peace
to this selfish, hate-filled
planet. RELIGION,
HOWEVER, IS NOT THE
ANSWER! Religion became
the topic of conversation in the
plane as a minister joined a
group of salesmen. “Want to
hear my religion, sir?” asked a
younger man. “It’s the golden
rule — simply the golden rule.”
The minister replied, “Want to
hear my astronomy, sir?
Twinkle, twinkle, little star —
simply that!” I believe a lot of
what’s wrong with America
today can be connected to
“nursery rhyme” religion. So I
say “religion” is not the
answer! Christ is the answer!
Christianity is the prescription
for this sin-sick world! Not
churchianity or religiousness,
but blood-bought, born-again,
true-to-the Bible, Christianity!
Two things about Jesus
Christ make Him as relevant, as
necessary, and as much “with
it” as anything can or ever will
be.

Pastor, First Christian Church
I. JESUS CHRIST PROVIDES
HELP FOR TODAY!
Young people are doubting
this today. They point to the
Christianity most church
members practice and say,
“Look! That’s Christianity! If
that’s what it is, I don’t want
it. I don’t buy hypocrisy!”
Perhaps the answer lies in the
incident centering around a
young Buddhist who had made
a very careful study of
Christianity, and particularly
of Christ. He remarked to a
Christian companion: “Your
Christ is wonderful, oh, so
wonderful; but you Christians,
you are not" like Him!” The
reason young people do not
realize that Christ is the answer
to life and death is that they
have never seen real
Christianity in action! They
have yet to see its relevancy
because they have not seen a
life that really puts the
teachings of Christ to work in
daily living!
Does Jesus really provide
help for today? We speak of
growing immorality in the
twentieth century. But Corinth
was a city built upon
immorality. We speak of racial
and civil strife. In Jesus’ day
the same problems existed.
What about the Jews and the
Samaritans?
Can Jesus provide help for
today’s problems?
On the problem of poverty,
through the apostle Paul, Jesus
tells me that I can be content,
no matter what state I am in.
Jesus tells me that to gain the
whole world would profit me
nothing if I lost my soul. OUR
POVERTY PROBLEM
WOULDN’T EXIST IF WE
WOULD PUT INTO
I

PRACTICE WHAT JES^JS
TAUGHT ABOUT VALUES!
And what about morality?
Is Jesus relevant to this
problem? Well, didn’t Jesus
come with a message of how
man can be changed from a
sinner to a saint? Jesus came
with a message of redemption,
regeneration and justification.
Do the teachings of Jesus not
give man a higher, more nobler
purpose? And is this not
dealing with the problem of
immorality?
And what about racial
strife? Jesus didn’t say we had
to marry one another and do
everything together, but He did
teach that we can all be
brothers and sisters in God’s
universal family. He didn’t say
that the Jew had to marry the
Samaritan, but He did say that
they were the same in the sight
of God.
We can demonstrate; we can
inarch; we can rebell; we can
demand our rights. We can
provide this world with good
sociologists, fine psychologists,
wonderful scholars, respected
counselors and conscientious
community leaders, but
UNTIL WE BECOME
FAITHFUL, FERVENT AND
ENERGETIC IN
PROCLAIMING JESUS
CHRIST, IN LIFE AS WELL
AS WORD, WE SHALL NOT
BE ABLE TO MEET THE
CRISES OF THE HOUR!!!
JESUS PROVIDES HELP FOR
TODAY!
II. JESUS PROMISES
HOPE FOR TOMORROW!
The Gospel hasn’t lost one
ounce of its power. And
because it still changes men
and women for God, I see hope
of a better day tomorrow, even
in our trouble-torn world. The
Gospel changes men and men
change the world!
When Jesus left this earth,
He left with the promise of a
better day on the way.
Someday, He’s going to lift His
disciples from this world and
hate, war and fear will be no
more. In Christ we have the
promise of life after death.
Today, we may face heartache
and trials, but this will soon
end, and anyway, JESUS
PROVIDES HELP FOR
TODAY.
Tomorrow we may lie upon
a bed of death, but we need
not fear — the real life is yet to
come. Jesus promises hope for
tomorrow!
Let Christ be as real in your
life as He is in history. Let Him
give you the same help and
hope that He has given me.
