Young County
Council Meeting
Held Monday
Young County Council met Mon-
day afternoon, April 27 at the
Woman's Forum with Mrs Ralph
Croathwait, chairman, presiding.
Roll call was answered with the
nomber of pennies for Friendship
The Council voted to pay rent
on the Forum for six months; the
Council will purchase a punch
bowl to be donated to the Forum.
Mrs. W. T. Johnson sent in her
resignation as council secretary
due to ill health. Mrs. Bill Pernf
of Olney was elected secretary
for the remainder of the year.
There will be a bake sale for
the council May 9 at Graham, Ol-
ney and Newcastle. Clubs nearest
each of the above towns will take
articles to be sold. Miss Jane
Combs, County H. D. Agent, gave
a report on the girls 4-H dress
revue and stated that Rolene Bar-
nett received the blue ribbon and
would go to Wichita Falls Satur-
day and have her dress judged in
the district revue. Mrs. Carr Ruth-
erford gave the treasurer’s re-
port. Other business included
plans for the H. D. Chorus and
delegates to attend the District
meeting at Vernon April 29.

Henry Chapel H. D. Club met
Friday, April 24. 2 p. m. in the
church. Mrs. Jack Atwood, the
president, called the house to or-
der. Minutes were read, roll call
by the secretary, Mrs. Geo. Pen-
dleton.
The program was given by Mrs.
Jack Atwood, subject. "Better
living in a better lighted home."
For reading, when you set down
to read and relax your eyes go to
work. If the light is poor your
eyes work harder, stated Mrs. At-
wood, So its well to know what
to use, where to place, then see
how you benefit by proper light-
ing .said Mrs. Atwood.
Those present for the meeting
were, Mmes. Jack Atwood, H. L.
Shahan, Dora McLaren, Geo. Pen-
dleton, J. L- Pemberton, Bob
Moren, Fred Moren, Miss Thena
Moren and one new member, Mrs.
Ellis Burgess.
The next meeting will be May
7 with Mrs. H. L. Shahan. Prog-
ram, “Flower Arrangement,” will
be presented by Mrs. Charles Gib-
son of the Lake Eddleman H. D.
Club.
Answer roll call, “The happiest
person I know is."

Honored With
Housewarming Friday
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Thetford,
who recently moved into their
pretty new brick home on Cherry
Street, were honored with a sur-
prise housewarming Friday at
their home. Hosts were their two
sons and wives, Mr. and Mrs. Chas.
Thetford and Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Thetford.
Recordings and pictures were
made and many gifts were presen-
ted to the honored couple.
Refreshments were served by
Mr. and Mrs. Thetford. Gifts were
received from the following: Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Walker, Mr. and
Mrs. Geo. Little, Mr. and Mrs.
Ray Mayes, Mr. and Mrs. H. L.
Parsons, Mrs. Soyd Campbell, and
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bishop.
Those sending gifts who were
unable to attend were Mr. and
Mrs. Sam Bird, Mr .and Mrs. Jack
Wright, Mr. and Mrs. C lint, Ruth-
erford, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Slu-
der, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Beach,
Mrs. Nell Hamer, Mr. and Mrs. L.
L. Langford, Mr. and Mrs. A. J.
Owen, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Bennett,
Mr. and Mrs. Buck Thetford, Mr.
and Mrs. W. D. Shifflett, Mrs. Ev-

Royce Moore transacted busi-
ness in Abilene Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Chas E. Hipp and
their son Edward Hipp and Mrs.
Hipp were among Grahamites at-
tending the Santa Rosa Round-
Up in Vernon Monday.

Club News

’ The Murray H. D. Club had a
called meeting at the Community
Center on April 24 with the vice-
president, Mrs. L. F. Atwood in
the chair, Mrs. M. L. Lorcane led
the recreation. Club collect was
led by Mrs. A. R. Robinson. The
club voted to entertain the Lake
Eddleman club at a Mother’s Day
Tea oa May 6, 2 p. m. at the home
of Mrs. D. M. Duncan.
Committees were appointed to
assist Mrs. Duncan. The club ac-
cepted the invitation of South
Bend for a Mother’s Day Tea on
May 12.
By majority vote the club de-
cided to assist in the Bake Sale
on May 9 at Graham.
Mrs. A. R. Robinson turned in
$1.95 into the club treasurer ,as

Jr., Named Dutchess
In Cotton Pageant
Thomas A. Wright, Jr.
Buell Orr and Zearl William-
son attended the Santa Rosa
Round-Up Monday in Vernon.
Mrs. H. L. Thornton. Jr., wa
chosen to represent the Alph;
Zeta honorary fraternity as their
Dutchess for the Cotton Pageant,
presented annually at Texas A&M
College.
Her dress was of “Fleurette”
dotted Swiss, bouffant style, with
bodice covered with flowers in
pastel shades. She was escorted
by her husband, Mr. Thornton, a
member of the fraternity.
Mrs. Thornton is the daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Turner of this
city.

REESE AIR FORCE BASE, Tex’,
April 23.—Aviation Cadet Thomas
A. Wright, Jr., son of Mr. and
Mrs. T. A. Wright, 1312 Brazos
Street, Graham, now is a member
Of Class 53-E-l of the USAF Basic
Pilot School (Multi-Engine) at this
base.
A-C Wright enlisted in the Air
Force in February, 195L He spent
several months at Hickam AFB,
Hawaii, before becoming aviation
cadet in July, 1952. He has been
at Reese since January 1953, and
is scheduled to graduate in August.
At Reese he will learn to fly the
famous TB-25 Mitchell bomber and
upon succesful completion of the
course will be commissioned a sec-
ond lieutenant in the Air Force
Reserve.
A-C Wright attended Graham
High School and Baylor University
where he majored in Business Ad-
ministration. He was associated
with a drilling company prior to
enlistment in the Air Force.

Mrs. V. S. Holbrook and her son
Homer Robinson were in Graham
last Thursday on business, and
on their way home they stopped
for a brief visit with grandma
Robinson.
Evelyn Robinson celebrated her
17th birthday Friday. April 24.
Irby Sell and Mrs. Rosa Averett
furnished music with the piano,
violin and guitar .and they all
joined in with tinging Gospel
songs which every one enjoyed.
Those enjoying games, music and
singing and refreshments were:
Mr .and Mrs. Bud Stocking, Mr.
and Mrs. Ross Averett, Mr. and
Mrs. Irby Self and Rosemary, Mr.
and Mrs. E. M. Robinson, Trena,
Frances, Danny, the grandmother,

Nearly all the ladies and girls
of this area attended the 4-H
Girls Style Show held Saturday
at High School Auditorium. Rol-
ene Barnett won first plac% in
the Senior division for the third
consecutive year. She will model
her dress at Wichita Falla on Sat-

attending the revival being held
this week at the Jean Baptist
Church. Rea Leon Christiansen
visited with Mrs. Annie Robinson
Tuesday evening. She enjoyed his
visit very much.

were among those attending the
sub-district meeting held at Jean
Monday night.

Olney visited with the Carr Ruth-
erfords Sunday afternoon.
