Our message as Christians is summarized in Ephesians 2:8, 9.For by grace
are ye saved through faith: and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of
works, lest any man should boast.
The Atonement is defined as “the Son of God uplifted on the cross". It is es-
sential for several reasons.
1. Christ on the cross is the means of salvation for all mankind. Acts 4:12
2. When Christ offered himself on the cross, a perfect atonement was made for
the sins of the people. Ephesians 2:7
3. The divine remedy for sin comes only from knowing and accepting Christ
who died for your sins. John 3:16
4. As Christ hung on the cross he was pure and spotless, had he not been
without sin his death on the cross would have no value. Romans 6:4-11
5. It is through the cross that sinners are reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:18,
19
6. The blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth us from all sin. Hebrews 9:22
7. The death of Christ upon the cross will never need to be repeated. It is once
and forever. Hebrews 10:29
8. The Christ who died on.the cross of Calvary, is equal with the Father, yes,
more than that, He is God essentially-, and,in the highest sense,. He is the “eter-
nal, self-existent, uncreated one. His is “life, original, unborrbwed, or derived. He
is the source and sustance of all.” John 1:1 ,-3, 14; Philippians 2:5, 6

Our Message
The Atonement, Part I
Pastor Gilbert Williams

Believe
Genesis 1:31; 2:1-3
Belief is the key to tapping into the power of God. To believe is
to put faith ahead of fear. Many a person has seen the vision,
heard the call, then surrendered to fear and done nothing.
One of-the saddest passages in the Bible is in Matthew 25. We
read of a man receiving an opportunity from his master. He
decided to play it safe. Me refused to take the risk. He caved into
his fears, and went out and hid his talents. His master vtas so
displeased that he cast the servant oyt for hot doing something
with his opportunity.
To believe is to make a commit me nf. What you can not do,,
Jesus can do through you, if yott’f coopdraft* With Hta*

tem. Because of her efforts, several
programs were made available to
treat the root problems of substance
abuse, which worked toward the
recovery of many criminal defen-
dants.
As adamant as Judge Kent has
been about the need for intensive
drug and alcohol rehabilitation ef-
forts, she is just as adamant in her
sentencing-of repeat DWI offenders
to jail sentences, appropriate incar-
ceration of felony drug dealers and
other felony offenders where incar-
ceration is deemed warranted.
