At the Cross
Part II
1 John 5:11-13
G. Williams, Pastor
1 John5:11-13 . ..
Jesus is man's only hope for eternal life. The cross bridges the
gap between Heaven and earth. Those who believe and accept
Christ atoning ministry on the cross received the promise of eternal
life. The cross established several vital points.
1. It is through the cross "the gates of the heavenly paradise are
thrown open."
2. The ransom paid by Christ is the "atonement on the cross.
Christ rescues man from the death sentence. Romans 5:19-21.
3. Justice and mercy met at the cross. Thus drawing God and man
4°The ^^establishes the changeless character of the divine law.
Psalm 89:28-34. It was not "changed to meet the sinner in his sins.
For the law is as "eternal as God's throne."
5. The cross gave the "death-stroke to Satan" by means of the
cross. "Satan, the prince of the world, was cast out,' - his destiny
sealed. 1 Cor.15:54-57, so the cross is central in redemption and the
atoning act of the cross complete.

The crrouc of approximately 50 air.gers, 'under the oirectic.o or Richard Herr,
is now m”its 23rd season. They are known for singing a wide range or styles
and periods of composition, with their Spring concerts m recent years featuring
Broadway show tunes.
"Cole Porter was selected this year because his 100th birthday is being
celebrated all over the United States and in Europe and because the 800 songs
which he wrote (only half of which were published), are such a part or our
musical and cultural heritage," said Herr. "His sophisticated -vrics anc^
wonderful sassy and sentimental music are representative of uhe time in
he lived. Just his name conjures up images of too hats and tans, cnampacne
and caviar in Pans, Cairo, Venice, New York and Hollvwood. _ We are tryina to
recreate some of that in an evening of his oest music with o0 singers and a
orchestra to set the stage I"
