The waters of the Gulf Stream are approximately 50
miles off shore and are a favorite spot of headboats and
charter boats. While fishing in the Gulf Stream one can
catch loads of bottom fish or troll the waters in hopes of
catching bill fish.
For those that are land bound, the area boasts three
ocean piers - the Sea View in North Topsail Beach; Surf
City Pier in Surf City; and the Jolly Roger in Topsail
Beach. Fishing off the piers can be a fun and rewarding
way to spend the day for the whole family. Between
catches of flounder, blue fish, Spanish mackerel, spot
and more, you may get the chance to spot a sea turtle, '
school of dolphin or a parasailer or two.
Fishing inshore -can be fun, too. At Sneads Ferry
Campground & Marina Pier there is a pier that juts out
into the New River. This pier offers great fishing for .
those who want to fill their coolers with such fish as
croaker, spot, sheepshead, drum and flounder.
Surf fishing is another way to have fun fishing. Many
of the same species of fish that can be caught on they
piers can be caught from the beach. Justremember to
use a heavy weight. A holder for your rod comes in
handy, too.
Whether by boat, off a pier or on the beach, now is the
time to think spring, grab your favorite fishing pole and Anglers will find that there are many places to step off the beaten path and do some
hit the water to do a little fishing. fishing in the Topsail area. - photo by Connie Pleti
