Midway Wins
Toaeli M T. Rice’s Midway I to down the scrappy Waco State
Panters, defending district Home Hornets 13-to-0 in a Dis-
' champs, pushed over two touch-
downs in the fourth quarter on
Wood Field last Thursday night
trict 28-B clash.
Some 300 rain-soaked fans saw
the heavier Panthers pushed all
over the field during the first
half. Led by Bob Walker, 155-
pound smart-stepping fullback,
the Hornets early in the first
quarter marched from their own
six to the Midway six, but that
was as far as they got. Then-
backs to the wall, the Panthers
displayed an air-tight defense
and took over the ball on downs.
It was the same story in the
latter part of the opening stanza
when Walker broke around right
end for 30 yards to the Panther
21. In three plays State Home
drove down to the 12, but again
the ball went over on downs. Not
having a passing attack cost the
Hornets scores on both, of these
threats.
Heavy rain throughout the se-
cond and third quarters bogged
down both offenses, and the next
marching was done by the Pan-
el’s in the final chapter.
Midway took over on the 50
as the rain stopped, and Damer-
on, a fast-stepping, 145-pound
wing-back, shook loose for 18
yards. Three plays later Damer-
on swept right end for the re-
maining nine yards to score. The
extra point try failed.
It was Dameron again a few
minutes later, who terminated
a 40-yard march with a 14 yard
jaunt around right end. Donald-
son connected with Oswald for
the extra point, making the final
score 13-0. ±
