Having written to you several limes with reference to
re-opening a dry goods store in Comanche; I hesitate to again
Write you. However, Mr. Alvis, I still without employment
VnJ. it "“looks like that I must leave Comanche to find work
unless you can somehow make possible the opfnmg of a store
here and let me have the management of iU -—>■ ~ ~
My family and I enjoy living in Comanche. Me have good
schools, good churches' and a fine,' very fine citizenship and
would like so much to make this our perryanent home.,, if it can
be'-made -pojteiblei------ - t— - .(V
~—Mr. Altii: May I -suggest to you that you check up on. the I
stocks fn-Tour various' stores and see if’ vou could not take ^
from each store several thousand dollars worth of merchandise, a
shojt lots, broken sixes and maybe a little *>ff-vtyle, fptn add <
possibly five or six thousand of new merchandise with it and 1
thus make a-good store. Of course 1 realize that you would]
necessarily have to inake very low prices on this merchandise
and feel sure that ‘you would he glad to dp it.
I have in mind, a building on the We-t sid^j&t .the square,,
that 1 believe I “gould get, the. Rowland building .It i# well
located. has plenty of room to ahow a large atock and I believc
would be an ideal situation.
f M * , ’
You may feel that this type of stock would not be profit,
able, however, Mr. Alvia, knowing the merchandise that ia ear
tied by your stores I am convinced that the prices you-will be
willing to put on it will move it~ rapidly, and of course you
could add to it from timh. to time aa demand was made and
room provided.
Thanking' you for anv considera’kn shown me in the
matter, I restate,
Rrepect fully.

TO MY FRIENDS—
Comanche anti Surrounding Communities:—
I————The two letters here reprinted are self explanatory. My dreams
are going to come true. I have dreamed of having the management
of a Garner-Alvis Co. Store in Comanche ever sirtce their store closed
here. General conditions have been such that I knew they would have
to change before it would by possible. Now under the NE\[Vr DEAL
it has materialized. * -• ' j ., - • l
For the past we*ek merchandise ,,has. been pouring in from all
of the stdTl^^-Thousands. of dollars- wntAh.s'f mens and hoys suit-*,
ladles coats, dresses and hat5». Womens, misses and chrtd-
rens hose, men and hoys pants—Thousands of yards of silk and cot-
ton dres«^gootjs, over three thousand .pair of shoes for women, children
and men. I sincerely believe that I will open a store T\ere with at least
a $23,000,00 stock uf dry goods. Ofr course I may.not have everything!
Jh'nt-you "ill want.Jbut Hie-prices are go ip g to f»o so low that vou I
will find thousands of item* that wllUbe hist what you have been j
looking for. WINTER. IS JUST AHEAD, and- with the advancing I
prices this will be the opportunity of*'a life-time. There will he people I
here from every county that the Garner-Alvis Co. Stores itoueh, asl
they are known far and wide as.bnnHMng dependable merchandise,
and even though some items'may be a little off-style they will repre-
sent the very-best materials, r—--—
Now' do not be confused. ‘T do not claim every item in this
store to he of this season’s purchase, on the other hand this large
stock is made up of broken lots of merchandise from the several
stores, together with quite a lot of new merchondise purchased at
the lowest figures in years, and the prices that wffl be made are
unbelievable. Make your preparations to buy and huy plenty at the
prices it will be offered at Read every work of . this circular, make
out a list and come to this sto^e onjopening day e'xpfcctjng the lowest
prices you have ever heapd of. ■
I secured the“ old Rowland building on the West Side of the
Square. Every item will be marked in plain figures. You can readily
see the savings. Sale Opens at 9:00 o’Clock Friday Morning, August
4th, at Comanche, Texas.

| Dear Johhnv—
Your letter of Jun^-lst with reference to opening ’ a store
t in Comanche • has had ' your requested consideration. I have
{visited the various stores.-checlfelST;ttrft stocks and find that you
.are correct ixi^sjji;nesting that a division of stocks would make
t possible the opening of that store with a little outlay of mopey.
If am convinced that by carefully '.going trough the various
I stocks, taking out all broken sizes, short lots ’. and_ carry-overs
»I and some slightly off.style merchandise I will be. able to furni-'n
■ you a stock of about Tw-'enty to Twenty Five Thousand Dollars,
janil by tiding spm< TTv. of ^T\ Thini-nt<t of :he. new merrhan.
|tli-e that we have* fn trSIpsit at a very low price you w»ll have I
great jHissibiiities there ;Jt this time.
Now, Air. ATohon:—T arfitild pot have you mislead the people «

sands of friends, w ho were "’loyal to our store there • and who t
trade with us at uur other slores, and'we want them to kh<>w J
that the major portion of this stock will be composed of hrokep ,
-ire merchandise, slightlyoff-style merchandise, and having J
rom^ from the stocks of The Garner-Alvis Stores they ivdl
know the character of merchandise they may expect even in
whafVsome would call A STOCK CLEARANCE. Now, as to the
prices—Yoq piay assure them that it will be sold at a spiall
fraction of its' value. —
-Prices on merchandise ha,ve been advana|tng so rapidly -the
past few weeks in the markets, that this ^should be a great
opportunity for thousands of people to select something that
would meet their needs at a negligable cost. I believe, ijohpny,
that you will find the reponse of the buy jpg- public overwhelm,
ingly favorable' to your project. “
Johnny:—Don't forget to extend to every man. woman and
child that coipea in the. house that same old Garner-Alvis
Courtesy that has always been extendfe-d them where stores
have been pperated. With best wishes. I remain.
