THE FIRE
About 1:30 o’clock Wednesday
rriorning the fire alarm called the Fire
Department to the residence of Jack
Terry, in West Lampasas, where fire
was discovered under the kitchen. It
seems that a lot of rubbish had gath-
ered under the kitchen and by some
xianner of means caught fire, and for
a while it appeared that the fire was
going to get under headway, but the
iire department arrived promptly and
extinguished the flames before the
house caught fire. Most of the fur-
niture was.^removed from the house
sot into the streets, but no damage
was done by the fire except from the
smoke. However, it gave the people
3n the neighborhood quite a scare.
WEDNESDAY NOON FIRE
The -fire department was called to
iffie residence of Mrs. C. N. Witcher
at noon Wednesday, a spark from the
Sue having caught the shingles and
a considerable hole was bured in the
roof and the outside wall burned also.
The quick response of the fire de-
partment saved the house no doubt, as
the wind was blowing a fearful gale
at the time of the alarm. The hole
Burned in the roof was some distance
from the flue, but it was certain that
the fire caught from a spark.

LEGISLATURE MAY
CONVENE IN EXTRA
SESSION AND QUIT
Austin, Texas, March 13.—Gover-
nor Neff today in a special message
to the legislature declined to recall his
proclamation of last Saturday calling
the legislature into special session
Thursday morning. The chief execu-
tive stated that he would not call the
legislature into session again until
the middle of April if it adjourned
immediately after meeting Thursday.
As a result of the governor’s mes-
sage, the senate following its execu-
tive session this afternoon, met in
executive caucus and voted to adjourn
Thursday morning immediately after
organization of the body for the spe-
cial session. Similar action was tak-
en by the farm “bloc” of the legisla-
ture this afternoon. The action of
the house in adopting a resolution
pledging to be present for convening
of the special session Thursday morn-
ing is taken as an indication that the
lower branch also will favor adjourn- j
ing immediately.
The governor’s message today was i
in response to the concurrent resolu-
tion adopted yesterday calling upon
him to recall his proclamation. The
governor stated that he decided about
ten days ago to call a special session
immediately to pass revenue measures
and make appropriations.
“It was my judgment then and is
my judgment now that the legislature
should reconvene Thursday morning
to do the work committed into their
hands by the constitution,” the gov-
ernor stated. “When I reconvened
you I used my best judgment. I am
still of the same opinion and there-
fore, shall let my call for the special
session stand as it is. If however,
the house and senate deem it not wise
or expedient for known and satisfac-
tory reasons by them to have the spe-
cial session at this time I shall hap-
pily and co-operatively accept your
verdict as final.”

WEEVIL IN LOUISIANA

ment of Agriculture today for use j

weevil in Louisiana. The assignment j
was made for a period of eight
months, during which the airplanes
will work under the auspices of ag-
ricultural officers in Louisiana seek-
ing means to attack the weevil from
the air.
The airplanes will be used with spe-
cial spraying equipment to fly over
the fields, spreading poison. Previous
experiments of this kind are said to
have been successful to a high degree.
