CONGRESSMAN BLANTON
FOUND NOT GUILTY.
Comanche, July 2G.— Con
gressman Thomas L. Blanton,
of Abilene, was acquitted to-
night of the charge of criminal-
ly libeling Oscar Callaway,
former Congressman and de-
feated opponent of Blanton in
the Democratic primary lad
July. The case went to the
Jury shortly after 5 p. m. Thurs
: day. An hour was taken for
supper and two hours spent in
deiiberat ion.
1 Blanton was in the court
room when the verdict was ren-
dered but Callaway was not
present. The Congressman em-
braced Defense Attorney E. N.
Kirby of Abilene, and shook
hands with each juror.
The case was given to the
jury shortly after 5 o’clock on
Thursday afternoon alter live
hours of argument by counsel.
County Attorney Client San-
derford, in his address asked
the jury to give Blanton a long
sentence in the county jail.
The limit under the law is
two years. The last speaker
for the defense was Blanton,
who spoke with feeling in his
own behalf. The case has been
< n trial here since Monday.
Blanton, according to indict-
ment lvtruned here in Api !,
published an article in the Cisco
News July 1(5, l(.)2ff, which raid
that Callaway “urged the peo-
ple not to buy LiberD, bmds,
not to con orve food, not to en-
list and to 1 lp him p r. cut .”

contract was made, and we can
see none now, especially when it
will be at a cost of nearly two
millions of dollars. Why not
supplement the supply of books
we have on hand and get along
with as little expense as possi-
ble, The public schools of the
State will need every dollar they
can get to run on next year, and
if a million or more dollars can
be saved on books, why not save
it and let the money stay in the
available school fund, where it
will do the most good to the
greatest number?
Teachers’ Examination.
There will be a teachers’ ex-
amination at Junction on Au-
gust 17th and 18th, for all
