now invalid and should not be coa-

point because some of those contact-

they were pledging tn the firtt’tn-

and so enthusiastic over this year's
rhampionshp club that they would-
n’t have been disappointed bad the
guarantee asked for been twice the
figure set as a goal. Naturally, a
lot of suprortei s w< uT be able to
follow the team to Jacksonville due
to the gasoline and tire shortage,
but the rank and file of fans here
will be with the boys in spirit. O?
course, spirit don't compensate for
presence, but its 120 miles to Jack
scnvflle and back and the OPA don't
allow that much pleasure driving a
month and B and C card holders are
supposed to use the gas issued for
necessary business purposes. The sit
uation would have been worse had
the game been played in Grapeland
and to be honest about It. the peo-
ple and fans of Grupetond would
have been sadly upset had the con-
test come to this city. Personally,
your writer is going to try to follow
the team to the Tomato City even
if we have to work some sort of a
shanipaa. And right now we don't
know what the shanlgan will be.

A flaw days ago, in this column,
the writer made an appeal for shot-
gun shells. This week we received a
box from MORRIS 8. MARSHALL,
formerly of this county, who sms ea-

chant Marines. MARSHALL mailed

card to the editor he wrote: “I hap-

PREDICTION—
Six months ago the situation on
the home front was playad up by
folks in Washington aa dark and
awfully gloomy. Lota of items disap-
peared from store shelves and Mrs.
Housewife prepared to find as many
substitutes for the reliables aa pos-
sibles and to cut to the bone. W«
wish to offer this opinion. Part ofi
our rationing system has not been I
as bad as the artists psinted It. It I
has been more political In spots than
necessary. Remrmber this. From
right now on out until next Novem
her national election month, the pro
grams of regulation, restriction and
regimentation, or the three "R” pro
gram will slowly disappear. We ra
tinned coffee—the President hlmnelf
annonnead the lifting of the sales
ban on coffee. Farmers can now sell
fresh meat without collecting .rolnts;
trees will be available for Christmas;
Christmas lights can be nsed this
holiday season; and the embargo on
Thanksgiving and Christmas turkays
has bean lifted. Pork points have
been reduced. These things have al-
ready happened. Hera Ww some
