News from Town Hall
By Double Oak Mayor Mike Donnelly
www.double-oak.com - Town Hall - 972-539-9464 .
There is a lot to report on in this month’s col-
umn and I’ll try to hit the highlights while keep-
ing the column around one-thousand words, so
let’s get started:
Thank You Mayor Dick Cook
Deputy Mayor Pro-Tem Dick Cook will be
leaving the council on May 17 when the new
council is sworn in. Mayor Cook has faithfully
served the town for over 17 years and has held
many positions. Dick has served on the Plan-
ning and Zoning Commission, the Board of Ad-
justment, as Town Treasurer, Council Member,
Deputy Mayor Pro-Tem, Mayor Pro-Tem, and as
the Mayor of Double Oak for 9 years. He and his
wonderful wife Georgette have been residents of
the town for 25 years.
One of Dick’s greatest pleasures has been to
work with professional town employees during
his tenure. He feels fortunate that he has served
with caring and forward thinking town councils
and to have had the opportunity to work with
elected officials from other towns, Denton Coun-
ty and the State. He has been a leader over the
years for drainage and road improvement proj-
ects which benefit and enhance the town. He is
always proud when those projects reach comple-
tion and the improvements have helped Double
Oak citizens.
Dick, on behalf of the Town of Double Oak,
we thank you and Georgette for the many years
you have given to representing the town and all
of its residents. You have been a great neighbor,
good friend, outstanding mentor and a wonderful
Mayor. Mayor Dick Cook, you will always be
known as a statesman and a true gentleman.
A reception to honor Mayor Dick Cook will
be held on Monday, May 17 from 6:00pm to
7:00pm at Town Hall. This is open to the pub-
lic and all are invited to stop in and visit with
Dick and Georgette. The regular council meet-
ing begins at 7:00pm, where Dick will be hon-
ored and the new town council will be sworn
in.
May 17 Town Council Swearing in Ceremony
This year’s town council elections were can-
celled. Current Councilman John Dondrea and
Mayor Pro-Tem Tracy Miller were unopposed
and will begin new 2 year terms joining Council-
men Tom Pidcock and Dr. Ara Minassian. Gary
Garrett will be a new addition to council and I
know will do an outstanding job representing and
serving the town residents during his term.
