THE RAMBLER and his children
enjoyed thetr visit Sunday afternoon
to the OSBORN bird hatchery In Pa-
nola county. To he more ■pacific,
MARK and LOUISE have several
fine looking birds that have been
cage reared, and Its really a nice
hobby, mamc bought ton pair of
quail and from 405 eggs has managed
to bring up better than MO little
ones. The OSBORNS also have some
pretty pheasants. LOUISE Is as In-
terested In the hobby as her hus-
band and has spent many hours look-
ing after the prised birds.
GAME—
Friday, the fans sad team n

will be played Is another matter—
a problem to he discussed and de-
cided In n special meeting to be held
In Jacksonville, Texas .tonight. The

Hotel. In deciding game sites both
teams must take Into consideration

be well to confer with some of the
local officials about this matter be-

Is simply a sportsmanship suggestion.
The writer is in no way trying to fix
the game location in advance of the

atteaded the game In Center Friday
The Carthage Bulldogs Journeyed
down to Shelby county last Friday
night and after tour thrilling quar-
ters of good clean football brought
tho district flag and the champion-
ship back to their home town.
To pick oat a certain player for
praise would be unfair to the others
who performed In the game. Every
man on the Carthage list played ex-
cellent football. But to name a man
who fought with a true Bulldog spirit
all the way, we would pick Phi)
Koonce. Captain and senior letter-
man. Koonce displayed expert gener-
alship on the field at all Jinei and
played a consistent contest through-
out the four periods. It waa his re-
sponsibility as Captain of the Club
to call the plays that ultimately de-
feated the Roughriders who put up
s gallant brand of football all the
way.
P. L. Milam stellar and dependable
Carthage back waa able to coutlbute
little or nothing to the smashing vic-
tory. Milam has been nursing injuries
for the pest several days. With P. L.
In the game and going good the
score would have been different and
the Bulldogn would undoubtedly been
able to stack up more yardage thru
the air. ‘
Engene Langford started the gam*
but was forced out In the second
period with n foot Injury. During his
stay In the skirmish he played spec-___
taeular ball on both the offense and ^
defense. '
The Bulldog tackles and especially
Hull. Bruster and Moore in the line
played championship type ball. Bob
Davis also broke thru several times
to set the opposing runners down
bard.
The Bulldogs kicked off to the
riders and Center kicked buck
Roughride
on fourth down after being unable to
gain. After exactly seven line
plunges, and one sweeping end ran
thu Bulldogs drew first blood but the
try for extra point was unsuccessful.
Carthage held a S-0 lead thronghont
the- first quarter. In the middle of
the second period the Center team
turned to the air for net yardage, af-
ter several thrusts at the line had
resulted In failure to gain. A sharp
Speedy, lefthanded passer cluttered
up the tone with passes and com-
pleted a long forward fling to an
open and for the Ronghrldera first
counter and try for extra point was
good. The Roughriders he ld a 74
lead at half-time. Carthage bad com-
plete charge of all ground honors bat
the air supremacy apparently belong-
to the Center club.
Spectators in the stands settled
down for a thrilling see-saw second
half. It was apparent that the Rough-
riders would spend a lot of offensive
time shooting passes, and It was
known that the Bulldogs would stick
to the gronnd for gains with their
pasner, P. L. Milam out of the aklrm
