Firestone Tires
j'*
“One car out of every five on the
road today is running on smooth worn
tirse, unsafe for present day driving
conditions, accord to The Waggoner
defining company of tthis city.”
“Motorists are content to go along
with unsafe tire equipment7 only be-
cause they do not realize the danger
of injury to their families and them-
selves that they, are risking. We find
it very 'difficult to make car owners
understand just how fast they really
do travel.. Most car owners do not
have any conception of what speed
means in distance covered. Few know
that at 60 miles per hour a car trav-
els 88 feet per second, and any car
can come to grief in 88 feet, with on-
coming traffic, curbs or ditches. Fail-
ure of any time and particularly a
front tire means trouble.”
“In other words the driver fails to
realize that every car has three steer-
ing wheels, one in his hands and two
on the orad, these being the two front
tires. Failure of any one invites dan-
ger. That's why it's foolish to take
chances with thin, worn tires.”
“Many motorists risk trouble to la-
terally ‘run the treads’ off their tires,
gettiny the last few cents worth of
mileage out of them. This is false ec-
onomy of the worst kind. .The saving
is insignificant when compared with
the danger and possible expense they
invite.”
“It is hard to understand why mo-
torists take chances when Firestone
fire prices are the lowest in history.
While prices have been materially re-
duced values have actually increased.
E^or example, in today’s Firestone
tires the motorists gets Gum-Dipped
Cords, Two Extra Gum-Dipped Cord
Plies Under the Tread and a Safe,
Slow-wearing Non-skid Tread at less
cost than ever before.”
“Firestone dealers are presenting
these facts to car* owners in a special
mailing of Firestone Dealer Co-opera-
tive catalogues to 20 million car own-
ers.. This is the largest mailing of
its kind in history. The Firestone
Dealer Co-operative catalog shows im-
portant construction features and the
new low price levels. Any car owner
who has not received a copy may se-
cure one at the Waggoner retail sta-
tions.

Golf Tournament
Everything is m readiness for the
golf tournament which is being held
in Wichita Falls by the Junior Cham-
ber of Commerce. The tournament
will be held next Saturday on the
Weeks Park course.
Wichita Falls will not enter a team
and solicits the entrance of teams
from every town in this section. Each
town has been asked to send a four-
man team to the tournament.
The town sending the winning team
will be awarded a large loving cup,
which will become the permanent tro-
phy of the town winning this event
for three successive years. The win-
ners and runners-up of the various
flights will be awarded prizes of their
own choosing.
The entrance fee is $2.00, for which
they will receive the following: fifty-
four holes of golf; a banuet and dance
on Saturday night, May 21; a chance
to win the loving cup for our city and
a chance at one or more of the many
prizes which are offered.
It has been announced from autor-
itive source, that Harvey Stanford,
Electra high school coach, that he will
not coach at Floydada as previously
reported but at Matador.
Harvey was offered the position at
Floydada but his wife received a
teaching position at Matador and he
also received the job as coach. This is
the real reason for Harvey’s change.
According to B. M. Dinsmore, sup-
erintendent of Electra public schools,
there have been approximately 50 ap-
plications received for the coaching
position but it will be up to the school
board when they meet next nionth to
select the successor of Mr. Stanford.
If the boss’ desk is clean it indicates
that an assistant is doing the work.
CHILD
REGULATING?
CASTORIA WILL
DO Itl
When your child needs regulating,
remember this: the organs of babies
and children are delicate. Little
bowels must be gently urged—never
forced. That’s why Castoria is used
by so many doctors and mothers. It
is specially made for children’s ail-
ments; contains no harsh, harmful
drugs, no narcotics. You can safely
ghe it to young infants for colic
pains. Yet it is an equally effective
regulator for older children. The next
time your child has a little cold or
fever, or a digestive upset, give him
the help of Castoria, the children’s
own remedy. Genuine CasLoria al-
ways has the name:

Worth lawyer, wa'S a visitor in Elec-
tra Wednesday in the interest of his
candidacy for congressman at large,

the Panhandle, making a swing
through Northwest Texas and extreme
West Texas.
While in the city, he was with his
good friend A. C. Rippy who introduc-
ed him to a number of our leading
citizens and helped to organize and
select a chairman for an “Erskine
Williams for Congress’ club. Ben Tip-
ton was chosen as this chairman and
with the more 60 other clubs already
organized in Texas will aid Judge
Williams in his campaign.
Judge Williams is a long-time resi-
dent of Fort Worth, having been a
lawyer there for more than 30 years
and is now for the second time vice-
president for Texas of the American
Bar association. He has also just com-
pleted a year’s term as president of
the Fort Worth and Tarrant County
Bar association, and last fall delivered

One of the largest magazine publishing houses published a survey which
they recently made to find out the tire buying plans of car owners for this year.
In this survey they covered twelve states and interviewed 1,403 of their
subscribers. They found that 68% of those interviewed are going to buy tires
this summer, and that 27.2% of these car owners are going to buy Firestone
Tires—the next highest is only 20.6% which shows the demand for Firestone
Tires is 32% more than for any other make.
