Happiness, joy, the satisfaction of a holiday
spent just as you would like it most—in the old-

CHRISTMAS and another year looms ahead. J he trials
L and tribulations of the past 12 months fade into the
background and there stands foremost the tact that IVcos
is still the best town in Wes Texas.
In the old boom days, when money came and went.so
easily, Pecos was the best town t<, live in, the safest town
to invest in, the place that peopi who looked toward ’he
future selected as their home.
Today, the picture is little eha god; People who hav
investments in this part of the country -till are making
Pecos their headquarters. It is still virtually impossible ’ >
fnd a desirable vacant house. Our main street is still lined
with busy establishments and not the gaping vacant front-
that you see in erstwhile ‘booin’ towns of the other area-.
And so, at this Christmas-tide, let us imbed render
thanks for what w.e have rather than for the visionary and
transitory things that we have lost or imagine we have lost.
Let us be thankful above* all. that throughout this de-
pression our people have maintained a stift upper lip;
have ‘stuck together’ and ‘pulled together and that in
spite of the shrinkage in many of our personal fortunes we
find our city today, basically as sound as a dollar and with
every reason to face a future filled with hope.
And to all our friends—and we flatter ourselves in be-
lieveing there are many of them—we wish a Merry Christ-
mas from the heart.

IHE RECONSTRUCTION Finance Corporation is giving
1 serious consideration to Pecos’ application for a loan to
finance the building of the Red Bluff Reservoir.
The mere fact that they are asking for much addition-
al data for the project is encouraging and means that if we
go after the loan with every possible resource there is a
good chance of securing it.
None of us realize fully the opportunity that is starin.f
us in the face, Can you visualize what tin* expenditure of
$3,500,000, ( hiefly in labor, would mean tj> Pecos and the
T\*cos Valley? It would mean 1 i111<‘ short of ji boom for
three years and then stabilized prosperity from then oh.j
Furthermore, if we lose this opportunity chances are it will
be many, many years before there is another chance. Thu[
reaction against governmental expenditures is bound to re-
sult in a decade or so of strict economy.
Right now the iron is hot. The application has been
ably presented by Messrs. Vernon Sullivan It. 11. Gray and)

To Our Third Anniversary Party
Saturday, Dec. 24
A . H. DUNLAP declares that a good supply of soft water
11 may be found right at our ha< k iloor, so to speak. Per-
haps. like thi* man of the story. We have been chasing th“
pot of gold at the rainbow's end and neglecting to look un-
der our front doorstep.
We know nothing personally about the water supply
that Mr. Dunlap speaks of but when a man of his unques-
tioned ability speaks then his words are worth listening to.
At any rate, every possible source of soft water should
bo fully investigated.
