“ “Purges” and

for Old Folks
DR. W. B. CALDWELL
AT THE AGE OF 83
While Dr. W. 1L Caldwell, of Mon-
tleello. III., a practicing physician for
47 years, knew that constipation was
the curse of advancing nge, he did not
believe that a “purge" or “physic"
every little while was necessary.
To him, If seemed cruel that so
many constipated old people had to
be kept constantly “stirred up" and
half sick by taking cathartic pills, tab-
lets, salts, calomel and nasty oils.
In Dr. Caldwell’s Syrup I’opsin he
discovered a laxative which helps to
“regulate" the bowels of old folks. Dr.
<’aid well's Syrup Pepsin not only

Sure of Himself Now!
So Clean Inside, No Fear
of Perspiration Offense,
However Over-Heated
Once a person realizes the wonderful
properties in caxcara, no other laxative
in the market would ever be considered.
It’s no trick to“c!can out the bowels.”
Dozens of things will do thaL But a little
natural cascara purifies the system clear
through. Cleanses even the pores of
your skin. Renders perspiration as in-
offensive as so much dew! The old-
fashioned way was "salts.” They get
action, but they take the mucous mem-
brane along with the waste matter!
Mineral oils are gentler, but they leave
the bowels with a film of poisons for
the blood to carry off through the pores.
But when you cascarize the system, you
get rid or all the poisons by normal
muscular action of the fx>u'fu.
If you have the habit of taking medi-
cine for constipation, or even for auto-
intoxication,stop it For a e.wdy cascaret
is a delightful form in which to take cai»>

Jl'NIOR TOPIC — Serving tn the
Church.
INTERMEDIATE AND SENIOR TOP-
IC—The Meaning of Church Member-
ship.
YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULT TOP-
IC—Living und Working Together In
the Church.
There Is an utter lack of connec-
tion between tbe subject chosen by
the lesson committee and the pas-
sages of Scripture selected. The first
exhibits the responsibilities of the
subjects of the Messiah's kingdom,
and the second plot urea the graces
which were upon the• members of the
primitive church. Definite recogni-
tion should he given ibis in our In-
terpretation of tlie passages.
I. The Responsibilities of the Cub
Jects of Messiah's Kingdom (Matt.
5:131(1).
The whole mass of mankind Is
shown in the Scriptures t<> be cor-
rupt the whole world in moral and
spiritual darkness. It is the high
privilege and solemn responsibility of
tin* subjects of the kingdom to exert
a saving and uplifting Influence on
the world in which they live. They
are to live such lives as to purify and
enlighten. This can only be done in
the measure that they personally
know Jesus Christ, the* King, and
stri ve to make known 11 is glory und
power to others.
1. “Ye are tne salt ot the earth’’
(v. IS).
The properties of stilt tiro;
(1) Penetrating. This mean* that
tbe disciples must not separate them-
selves from* the world, but thrust
themselves into Its aetlvltios. Salt
must be brought Into contact with the
substance to be affected by it.
(U) Purifying. Tbe Influence of
the disciples of Christ is to uplift and
purify.
(3) Preserving. Salt has the tend-
ency to arrest decay. The influence
of believers tends to save tbe world
from perishing in Its own vices.
2. “Y« are the light of tbe world”
(v. 14).
Light Illuminates and warms. In
order to perform Its mission, light
must not bo hidden. The city built
on a bill was not Intended to be bid.
This world Is dark and cold. Many
are the pitfalls and snares set by the
devil Believers in Christ should so
live that the unwary ones be kept
from falling info them.
II. Characteristics of the Primitive
Church (Acts 2:42-47).
The behavior of'the rnenile-rs of the
early 'church was as marvelous at
their 'glf(s iff speaking with tongues
and pfc-rterming mighty miracles. It
was t,h(‘ .result of the Holy Spirit In
their hearts.
1. They #sought Instruction from
those Who knew the Lord (v. 12),
This is always so. The unfailing
mark of the spirit-tilled believer Is
eagerness to receive instruction from
those who .have been taught by the
Lord. • ' .'
2. .They abode In fellowship with
one another (v. 42).
Spirit-filled believers huve un affec-
tion fop their kind.
3. They observed the memorial sne-
ramerit of Christ’s dentil (v. 42).
Those ‘Who have entered Into fel-
lowship vHtip Christ will faithfully ob-
serve this! memorial.
4. They continued In prayer (v.
42).
A sure mark of the splrit-hlled be
llever is n life of prayer.
R. They were together (v. 41).
This unity was the result of their
having been baptized Into the one
body of which Christ Is head (I Cor.
12:13).
(!. They had a community of goods
(vv. 44. 4a).
They sold their possessions and dls
trlhuted them to all men as they had
need. This proves flint they were Uli
d**r the power of the Supernatural. If
is not n natural thing fot* one to aban-
don his title to earthly possession*.
7. They were filled with gladness
and singleness of heart (v. -lb).
Those who are really born from
above are tilled with great Joy and
will devote themselves to the doing
of good to others.
Praising God and having favor
with Ml tbe people (v. 47).
SuiJi unselfishness gained the sf-
trillion of the people nnd Induced
them to yield theueu-1 vt-s to (,mj arid
such ns were being saved were added
unto them. • . .
