Parties Introducing New Book
A series of reviews and auto-
graphing parties is being held to
Introduce "Red River Dust," a
book of human Interest short
stories dealing with early day
life in Red River County.
Co-authors of the book are
E. W Bowers of Clarksville
and Miss Evelyn Oppenhelmer
of Dallas. All material for the
new book came from Mr. Bow-
ers’ personal collection of dis-
trict court case records^
Saddle Theft
Operation
Uncovered
A saddle-stealing operation,
conducted over a period of
months In Bowie, Collin, Fan-
nin, Lamar and Red River Coun-
ties culminated tn the arreat of
two suspects last week. They
were In the Lamar county Jail
at Paris Monday.
At least 30 saddles were re-
covered In Red River County
last week. Seven had been stol-
en from R. A. Stuart of De-
troit. Another belonging to
Kenneth Rosa of. Clarksville
was returned to him.
Investigations were conduct-
ed during the last two months
by SUm Hulen, representing the
Texas A southwestern Cattle
Raisers Association; Frank
Kemp, Texas Ranger; Lamar
and Red River County Sheriff
Departments.
So many saddles were in-
dlartes, letters and other ma-
terials.
First of the events was held
at the downtown Sanger-Harris
store last Friday at noon. It
was to be followed by a review
and autographing party Tuesday
night at North Park Center
Community HaU at 7-30 p.m.
Mias oppenhelmer reviewed
the book on her KRLD radio pro-
gram at 10; 15 p.m. Sunday night
and la scheduled to makes per-
sonal appearance in Paris De-
cember I.

his young friends should

Hunting Mishap
Sherman Cecil Prewitt, If,
of Hooks died about 0 p.m. No-
vember 21 In wadley Hospital
at Texarkana where he had been
taken for treatment of wounds
suffered In a hunting accldaat.
II was reported that he was
accidentally wounded about 4:10
that afternoon while daar hunt-
ing.
He was born at Clarksville
May 27, 1852 and at-the time
of his death eras living with Me
mother, Mrs. Lee ale Prewitt of
Hooka. He Is also survived by
a grandfather, E. C. Guthrie,
Clarksville.
Funeral services were con-
ducted Sunday, November 24, at
2 p.m. at New Haven Baptist
Church. Rev. Boyce Green and
Rev. Hassell Johnston officiat-
ed. Burial, In New Haven cem-
etery, was conducted by Jolley's
Funeral "Home.
Pallbearers were Trask
Cochrum, Steve McAlexander,
Mike McAlexander, Terry Tid-
well, Alan Eppe, Rex Pope,
Gerald Wagstaff and Nell Tack-
ett.
Other survivors Include sis-
ters, Mrs. Margie Hawley, Ttg-

evening, December 3, for the

parade, beginning at 8:20. The
parade will be climaxed by the
entrance of Santa Claua on the
public square.
Sponsored by the Chamber of
Commerce and planned by the
merchants’ committee In co-
operation with business and
professional people, City of
Clarksville and several organ-
isations, the event will feature
school band music, attractive-
ly decorated floats entered by
clubs and other organisations
along with commercial entries.
Parade Entries Invited
Persona or organizations de-
alring to enter the parade are
tevttga to register at the Cham-
ber of Commerce Immediately.
Judges for the float contest
will be secured from neighbor-
ing communities and will Judge
the floats on three categories—
attractiveness, originally and
artistry.
Prises for Beet Floats
Prises amounting to $50 to be
provided by the Chamber of
Commerce, will be awarded for
the West floats participating la
