•—Byers School Notes
The people are taking to the
Educational week in a grand
wav. The program given at the
Church Sunday night was well
attended and the people were
much in praise of it. The one
that will be given at the school
building will be well attended.
We certainly want to thank you
good ioval people lor the stand
t lat you ii ivc taken in this work
You are io v congratulated in
the way that you have stood be-
hind the school in the past und
we want you to take a firm
stand this yeur. It takes time
to build up u fortune, it takes
time to move mountains, it
takes time to dig and it certain,
ly takes time to build the big-
gest institution in town—the
public schools.
Mrs. Vickery was out last
week several days on account of
Mr. Vickery being sick and Mrs.
Homer McConkey worked in her
place we were sorry that Mrs.
Vickery had to be out but glad
that we had good material for
her place.
The school board several years
ago passed a rulling that teach-
ers that did not go to the State
Teachers’ Association when near
here would not draw their mon-
ey for the days that school was
dismissed. This seems to be a
good ruliug and the board at its
meeting the other night said
that the same rulliog was still
in effect, Of course there are
times when the teachers cannot
attend these meetings but it one
teacher goes all should go or
their should be some sort ot an
adjustment made in the matter.
All of our teachers are members
of the State Association and
this has been a great boom tor
the schools. In tact 1 do not
think that anv teacher should
be allowed to teach that does
not belong to the State Teach-
ers’ Association. There will be
lectures that will do all good
The schools arc not for the teac-
hers but for the pupils. Then
the best is not to good for the
pupil.
We are expecting a lot of you
people to come out to see us this
week. We were pleased to have
with us this morning Mrs. W.
O. Moon and she made us a
good talk. If Mrs. Moon has
an interest in the public school,
why is it that you do not? We
always welcome vou to come.
We hope that Mrs. Moon comes
again. G. C. Boswell, Supt.
