WM. CAMERON LUMBER CO.
BADLY DAMAGED BY FIRE
Fire caused damage estimated at
$3,000 Thursday morning about 7:30
o'clock when the Wm. Cameron Lum-
ber office caught fire as a result of
the explosion of a gasoline heater.
Travis Jones, bookkeeper, was
lighting the stove when it exploded,
burning him on the right hand and
the right side of his face. The fire
department was called out and man-
aged to extinguish the flames, but
not until the ipside of the building
was badly burned. The wall paper
stock was badly damaged, labels
were burned off the paint stock, the
displays of built-in fixtures were
badly burned, the walls were all
blackened and the office was almost
destroyed.
G. Tom Bigham, manager, states
that they are “down but not out,”
and that plans are already being made
to remodel immediately.
FOR RENT—The building now oc-
cupied by the Andrew-Wright Gro-
cery Co., will be for rent after Jan-
uary 1. See me for particulars.—

BUFFET SUPPER AND SHOWER
The home economics girls have
agreed to take care of 20 or 25 of
the children whose names appear on
the Lions Club list of underprivileged
children. These girls are doing a
good deed that they will always be
proud of, but they can’t take care
of all the children. There are some
60 names still on the list that no one
has agreed to give a Christmas pres-
ent to. There is only a very little
time left to take care of this mat-
ter, so go to the Majestic Tailor Shop
the first thing Friday morning and
sign up. You’ll never miss the few
nickels you spend for a toy for the
children, whose parents are not able
to buy them presents. Don’t forget",'
tomorrow is the last day!
Among the many interesting affairs
extended Miss Ruth Sparks in recog-
nition of her approaching marriage
to Wellborn Hudson, was a buffet
supper given by Misses Ada Mae and
Melba Gilbert on Wednesday evening.
In the living robin the fire place
depicted a snow scene, with soft blue
lights gleaming on the wintry sur-
roundings. Red and green candles
placed here and there also added to
the attractiveness. After the guests
\ad assembled, they were ushered into
the dining room, where Christmas pre-

THANKS TO THE LAMPASAS
FIRE DEPARTMENT
It has been rumored that due to
the fire in our office this morning,
we wouldn’t be able to serve our cus-
tomers for a few days. This is in-
correct. We are happy to state we
are in a position to serve our trade
as usual. This is due to the good
and quick work of the Lampasas Fire
Department. We appreciate this good.
Ask your grocer for rye, whole
wheat or raisin bread from the City
Bakery. , (d)

HEALTH SURVEY
PROGRESSING NICELY
A. F. Kelly and P. J. Gresham, of
the State Health Department, are
here to spend a short time and assist
with the health survey being con-
ducted in Lampasas county by Har-
ry O. Worth, county health super-
visor.
Mr. Gresham is a district supervis-
or and Mr. Kelly is with the food and
drug division of the state. They will
select persons to see that all hand-
lers of foods keep their places in a
sanitary condition and in that way
keep from spreading diseases.

to the appetizing supper, which con- .
sisted of turkey, with dressing, gib- X

cream potatoes, sliced tomatoes, salad .
and rolls. The second course was j X
angel’s delight fruit cake, mints, salt- $
ed nuts with coffee. j
After supper, needles and thread j **«
with a square of cloth was passed and X
each made a dish cloth, embroidering ||*
their initials in the corner, and pre-
sented them to Ruth. The girls then
brought in a shower of kitchenware
and admonished the bride-to-be to
keep these clean with her new dish
cloths.
Those present were Misses Lucile
Lemberg, Louises Oliver, Carolyn Fox,
Florence Moses, Ruth Sparks, Ada
Mae and Melba Gilbert, Mrs. Thomas
McGehee and Mrs. R. L. Moffett of
