A Wicked Treaty
"Proclaiming as their principal, atm the speediest
possible achievement of an agreement and complete
disarmament under international control in accord-
ance with the Objectives of the United Nations . .
The above sentence opens the preamble to the
nuclear lest ban treaty signed bv the representatives
of the UnHod States and Russia at Moscow.
Ohe does not have to be smart or possessed of
great avisdom to see in this the first step in the dis-
armament of our nation and transfer of our Armed
Service* to a world government
One of the best reasons for being against this
treaty is that Russia wants it. Khrushchev has said
there 4s no purpose in diplomacy unless Russia gains
something from it. In this case Russia is the onlv na-
tion gaining anything from the tteaty. The United
States certainly does not.
Since Russian leaders have always regarded treat-
ies a# scraps of paper tf thev interfere in any way
with their purposes, we mav assume that this is a
one-way agreement. Since it is made with a govern-
ment responsible for the death of millions of men
and women and the enslavement of millions of oth-
ers, it Re Immoral. Since it is marie with a nation that
is our avowed enemy, it b treasonable. The continued
encroachment of the Communists in South America
and their activities in fomenting racial violence in
this country, prove Ibev have not changed their in-
tention to "bury us" and the test ban treaty will only
help them to do so.
R is unthinkable that our leaders would lead us
into the enemy trap under delusions of peace And
peaceful c<m*faience with Russia is as reasonable at
co-existence with a rattlesnake
DMhPf the signer of the treaty for Russia sofemly
tow to our government that there were no missiles in
Cuba, when two davs later these missiles were photo-
graphed by our planes over the island'’
The last flickering light of hope to the peoples of
the enslaved countries dominated bv the communists
is America. The communist* hnow too well that a
treaty concluded with fhe UVWfed States wtfl convince
the captives that America has completely abandoned
them Their faith and resistance wfii he crushed and
Soviet troop* cun be pulled out.
Another fact tie treaty seekers seem to forget is
that Russia can continue testing m China without vio-
lating the treaty The present rift between the two
communed nation* is too thin to be given much cred-
ence. They are stdl together in their main objective
before communism can achieve d* goal.
