M. C. Wade tells how they do
things out in West Texas. A
representative of a railroad
dropped into one of the live
towns out there and asked the
citizens what they would give
for a branch of his road. Nego-
tiations developed that the road
would build to the town for a
bonus of $100,000. “Now show
us your credentials and we will
have the money ready before you
can leave town," said the citi-
zens. The credentials were forth-
coming and the monev was in
the bank before the afternoon
train b< re the railroad represen-
tative back to his company’s
headquarters, a little dazed but
quite captivated with the way
they do things in the Western
cities.—Texarkana Courier.

Oh, the long-winded bore jour-
neyed into a store, where the
merchant and clerks were all
busy; and he told an old tale that
was moldy and stale, and made
all the listeners dizzy; and he
hummed and he hawed and he
j drummed and he pawed, and no
one rejoiced at his sally; and the
foolkiller came and climbed onto
his frame, and planted him out
in the alley. Oh, the orator rose,
and he talked through his nose,
and he screeched like a vane on
a steeple; and he pounded the
slats of the vile plutocrats, and
he wept o’er tho woes of the
people; and the ills we endure,
anti the griefs of the poor, had
filled him with sorrbw and dud-j
goon; then tho foolkiller came
and got onto his game, and swat-
tied him once with a bludgeon. .
Oh. that man who sings bass

coupled with the backing and influence of the Fort
Worth Board of Trade, the Polytechnic Cotlese, the Ft
