ENTHUSIASM
Enthusiasm is the genius of
sincerity, and truth accomplishes
no victories without it.
—Bulwer-Lytton

Earnestness is enthusiasm tem-
pered by reason.—Pascal
There is no substitute for
through-going ardent, and sincere
earnestness.—Dickens
Every great and commanding
movement in the annals of the
world is the triumph of enthu-

ready to take up its duties un-
der some mystically perfect com-
mand.
A very esential part of mili-
tary operations is the advance
planning of strategy and tactics
to be put into effect immediately
the occasion arises to strike.
Where is the intelligence ser-
vice of the international police
force to be recruited so that the
general staff of the great protec-
tor of world peace will know
what the conditions are in any
given area; where are the weak
and strong defenses?
Perhaps this will also require
the organization of an interna-
tional force of male and female
espionage agents who will be or-
ganized in accordance with the
best standards of sweetness and
light.
Who would be the authority
that would give the order to the
international police force to
march, sail and fly? Now there
is a question.
If, in the present state of inter-
national morality wherein solemn
treaties of sovereign nations are
thought of as something to excite
derisive laughter, we have within
the United States individuals and
groups which knowingly and de-
signedly intend to create at the
expense of our people such a
force which conceivably would
be used against our shores and
cities we better identify them
now.
There probably are some lew
who would do such a thing know-
ingly, but the truth is most of
the advocates of an international
police force are mouthing a
phrase and are utterly ignorant
of what such a force would be
or the possible consequence of
its creation.
Politicians coin phrases. The
people pay the price of rhetoric
in “blood, sweat, and tears.”—
S. A. Light.

Army camps. Why, in a recent report made
by the government, it said the Army usually
prefers its camps to be located in wet in-
stead of dry communities. And there’s a
sound reason. In a wet community the
Army can control drinking. In dry com-
munities where bootleggers run wild it’s al-
most impossible. We know that from our
nearly 14 years of experience with national
prohibition.
“There’s no getting away from it, pro-
