were 1050 cattle and 333 calves and Satur-
day 1411 cattle and 735 calves
Chicago reported 2000 cattle Saturdayin
cluding l iOO Texans and reported the mar-
ket steady This makes a total of 47 > 00
cattle for the week against 1S000 last week
Elliott Haekett shipped out six cars of
ieef cattle to Chicago
Nat Houston shipped out one load of beef
cattle to Kansas City
Eldridge Campbell Robinson shipped
out one load of beef cattle to Kansas City
The Market for Texans
The National Livestock Reporter of Sat-
urday last says The business of the
week in the cattle pens was mainly in the
Texas division The quality ranged from
the very best grades down to some very
fGrassy hogs are commencing to arrive
Chicago in moderate numbers and of
course they sell somewhat under solid
corn hogs of equal weight
John Moran Chicago says Last
weeks receipts of hogs will stand the
largest for the summer season and
although we will get a good many hogs for
some time to come the quality throughout
the next few months will be poorer than
for several years past as farmers are feed-
ing less corn and more grass than in former
years
Receipts of cattle at Chicago Saturday
were mostly Texans
About 20000 Texas sheep were among the
receipts at Chicago Saturday
Combined receipts at Chicago Kansas
City Omaha and St Louis the past week
SS000 cattle 223S00 hogs and 51700 sheep
being 4000 more cattle 2S0O0 less hogs and
9000 less sheep than a week ueo Compared
witj a year ago there was a decrease of 40
ttle and 15000 sheep and an increase

W Stacy a cattle buyer from Montana
came in Thursday evening Mr Stacy had
bought from Hollicott 1500 beeves and en-
gaged cars to ship them from here North
on the 20th next Saturday
William Powell complains that the wolves
have gotten very bad in the Rhomo Pow-
ell pasture near town killing an average of
one of their fine calves each week These
are blooded stock and already they
timate the damage done at above 1000
hopes of staying the ravages of ths anim
somewhat they yesterday transferred tin
cows and calves to the nearest inclosuro
town
G W Russell who had been over th e
New Mexico country southwest and even
as far as Roswell came in the first of the
week He reports some interest awaken
ing in Channing among the ranclunen i fii
that direction and thinks there will be a
heavy New Mexico shipment in the fall
and that it will nearly all be from Channing
The years shipment and drive from
Channing cannot from present prospects
fall below 75000 head of cattle
W iSawyer of Minnesota arrived the
le week with a carload of Hereford
bulls sold to Rhoms Powell said to be
exceptionally fine ones
H W Eubanks one of tho range bosses
of the XI Ts is rounding up this week in
the Alamositas paitures and branding and
next week will sweep through this section
The grass and cattle in this country
could scarcely present a finer appearance

issued from Childress Tex to the cattle
raisers and farmers north and west of the
government quarantine line and is brought
about by the recent dumping in that coun-
try of a lot of cattle in violation of quaran-
tine regulations particulars of which were
given in The Gazette

The recent movement of cattle in direct
violation of the government regulations
from south and east of the quarantine line
lo the country north and west of the same
lias fully demonstrated to ua the necessity
of organiziny protectlvt association

through which we can seek protection as a
whole people instead of as individuals
Without such an organization we are power-
less to protect ourselves and receive pro-
tection from the proper source Looking
to that end we most respectfully request
that Ml those who feel interested in sus-
taining the health of our cattle beyond dis-
pute meet with us at Childress Tex on
Saturday the 27th inst at 10 oclock a m
when such an organization can be dis-
cussed and if agreeable become an asso-
ciation Wc also earnestly request that
the citizens of each county within the limit
of this call send to our meeting as many as
ten delegates or more to represent their re-
spective counties We deem this step of
vital importance to each and every cattle
owner
The territory embraced in this call is that
portion of the Panhandle of Texas lying
west and north of the following lines viz
Beginning at the southwest corner of Coch-
ran county theuce east along the south
boundary lines of Cochran Hockiey Lub-
bock Crosby Dickens and King counties to
the one hundredth meridian thence north
along the one hundredth meridian to the
Indian Territory
