WHICH WILL WIN
Famous Flyers That May Capt-
ure the Suburban
BIG STAKESj GREAT HORSES
Tcnny Favorite but Firenzl Tournament
Prince Koyal Tea Tray Banquet
Potomac Teuton and ltaceland
Not Without Friend
The Suburban is the most interestiag
race of the year to the people of America
and ou June 16 if the weather is good at
least 50000 people mil watch the turf
monarehs run New Yorks Pour Hun-
dred will be well represented famous men
and women from many walks of life will
throng the course and the bootblack and
rruscn rorAu
the millionaire will rnb shoulders in the
betting ring and minglo their shouts as
the flyers come under the wire Tho race
comes off at Sheepshead Bay It L the
distance is C miles value 10000 7000
to first 2000 to feecond 51000 to third As
the time draws nearer the absorbing ques-
tion in racing circles is Which will win
Judging from the result of the Brooklyn
Handicap there is but one answer if the
best horse wins and that answer is Ten
ny With Salvator out of the way the
little swayback is easily the king of run
ninpc horses on the American turf Bat
there are several contingencies upon which
Tennys chances depend He may sulk
that foot which recently gave a great many
people with plunsing aspirations more ex-
perience and less money may break down
and Pulsifer may keep him in the stable
when the day comes Conceding for the
sake of speculation that Tenny may not
win let us look nt the other promising can-
didates According to recent odds the
mare Firenzl is first choice after Tcnny
She carries a light weight and on a good
track would make the field hustle She
holds the worlds record for 1 miles 233
Firenzi too is one of three formidable
cracks that Tenny did not meet in the
Brooklyn Handicap She is reported to be
in first class condition and with 123
pounds up will bear watching Tourna-
ment is another hot faTorite Tenny has
not mct this year He carries 120 pounds
and is considered one of the best 4year
TEA TEAT
olds on the turf as his recent purchase for
33500 by Foxhall Keano indicates A
third much Taunted flyer from the west is
Teuton He too did not run in the
Brooklyn as he was said to be out of con-
dition Unless ho improves greatly he
will not be a dangerous Suburban candi-
date He holds the worlds record for 1
miles 1 2Jf Three other horsra that took
second third and fourth in the Brooklyn
Prince Royal Tea Tray and Banquet arc
well up among the small list of Suburban
favorites The fact that Prince lloyal
o carry Ave mora pounds than he did
Brooklyn should make Tea Tray a
much more formidable opponent
Prince Koyal is by Kingfisher Princess
and was bred by August Belmont He is
6 years old As a 4yearold ho ran second
to Exilo in the Brooklyn and was pur-
chased by Phil Dwyer at the Belmont sale
for 5609 Prince Royal holds the worlds
ltd for 111G miles 116K
Tray anotherOyeareldis by Rayon
Or Ella T He has been owned by W L
Scott and Dwyer Bros but at present be-
longs to William Lakeland Tea Tray has
a temper and is somewhat unreliable but
Lakeland has been very successful with
him Banquet Is Tea Trays full brother
and rtrns under Mike Dwyert colors Ban-
quet defeated Tournament as a 3yesr
old and broke the running record for 1
milns covering the distance in S03X and
thus eclipsinc ilvators 4yearold record
for that distance 205 Banquet is now a
4yearold and carries two more pounds
than he did when he broke the record

BAXQOET
In passing from the list of probable win-
ners I will conclude by mentioning two
others Racelacd and Potomac Racelasd
iron the suburban in 1S39 and U conse-
quently to be respected Potomac is a
mystery He belongs to Mike Dwyer and
only brought 523000 at the Belmont sale
He was the champion 2yearold of 1890 and
will make a strong bid for a place
The Suburban winners have been the
following named General Monroe 1SS4
twenty starters Pontiac 1S33 fifteen start-
ers Troubadour 1SSC twenty starters
Euros 1SST twenty starters Kikwood
ISSS seventeen starters Raceland 18S9
nine starters Salvator 1S9Q nine starters
Bnt the winner for 1S811 Well I should
say that a safe guess would be Tonny or
some other horse EAELE H Batok

ence to the report telegraphed from Den-
ver on Friday last Ecv Sam Small says
the Colorado referenca is misrepresented

ment that it had dismissed or expelled him

audited satisfactorily he asked Dr Wiff

Team Killed by a Train
Special to the Gazette
Vebsos Wilbarger CocxTr Tex
June 15 Yesterday evening about 730
oclock while Mr Rombo and family of
Quanah were endeavoring to cross the rail-
road track at this place ahead of the west-
bound passenger train tho team was struck
by the engine and instantly killed and tho
wagon demolished The family were un-
injured
Opposed to a Third Party

by the Alliance executive committee from
subAlliances which were asked to pass
judgment on the action of the Cincinnati
convention are far from encouraging to
Peoples party politicians It is known
that twentyfive subAlliances have repudi-
ated the third party movement Fifteen of
these have reported to the state Alliance and

FINANCIAL CENTER
THE OUTLOOK BRIGHTER THAN
IN MARCH OR APRIL
Crop Situation the AMIniportnt Factor
In Determining Future A alue or Stock
The Treasury All Right
New Yobk Juno 13 Events during the
week were mostly of a favorable character
The situation abroad which has been the
chief source of ansioty shows further sat-
isfactory improvement The best evidence
of this was tho decline in gold shipments
and the rise in the Bank of Englands pro-
portion uf reserve to liabilities from 4483
per cent to 4000 per cent in a week On
May 7 or little over a month ago the ratio
was down to 3333 per cent so that it can
be seen how successful this institution has
Decn in strengthening its reserves The
bank now holds about 5000000 gold more
than at this time in lS O and is in a much
better position to meet all probable demands
than was thought possible a few weeks ago
Whatever sums may bo withdrawn by Rus-
sia they will shortly be disbursed again in
debt payments The bank rate is still held
at 4 per cent but in open market the rate
for money is i2Jj per cent suggesting a
further decline in the official rate Another
indication of reviving confidence in London
was the failure of tho joint stock banks to
support the Bank of England in maintain-
ing discount rates This movement in-
cluded several of the leading banks of Great
Britain but was a complete failure for the
simple reason that borrowers had no diffi-
culty in finding all necessary accommoda-
tions elsewhere at lower rates The favor-
able progress of the Baring liquidation also
exerted a good effect and altogether the
outlook at the worlds financial center is
certainly much brighter than in March or
April Paris and Berlin are still in some-
what straitened circumstances but less ten
sion is naturally reported there as a result
of improvement in London
It is upon the home situation however
that we chiefly depend regarding the future
Europe may if sho wishes temporarily
lessen her holdings of American stocks but
their superior intrinsic value in compari-
son with other investments is certain to
assert itself and restore them into prefer-
ence again If Americans are the best se-
curities on which to realize in times of de-
pression they must necessarily be tho best
to buy when the change for the better sets
in The allimportant factor in determin-
ing future values of stocks is the crop sit-
uation Happily this is in our favor as
frequently pointed out and as the season
advances evidences of improvement seem
to multiply The certainty of an abundant
harvest at home and a deficient one abroad
increases each day Ourcropbureaustates
that tho increase in winter wheat acreage is
113 percent and in spring wheat 34 per
cent while the condition of both stands a
the high average of 9GG per cent and 92C
per cent respectively To more fairly un-
derstand the effect of good crops upon bus-
iness and railroad interests it should bo
remembered that at present we are suffer-
ing from the short crops of 1S90 In spite
of this drawback the declines in earnings
are small and many roads show unexpected
gains when the unfavorable conditions arc
taken into consideration Money continues
easy and promises to so continue until the
crop movement the present quietness of
trade tending to increase supplies More
attention has been given to Secretary Fos-
ters action in extending the 4j per cent
bonds than the question deserves I do not
believe ho will attempt any step that means
contraction of the currency for that would
be less popular than success in extending
these bonds at 1J < per cent Everyone un-
derstands also that such a low rate
of interest is possiblo only be-
cause of the advantages of holding
these bonds other than their safety and
the high credit of tho government West
ern banks who hold the bulk of outstand-
ing 4 s may be willing to accept a lowei
rate of interest than Eastern banks the
higher money rates of tho West rendering
circulation more profitable in that section
than hero but as just said more impor-
tance has been attached to this element
than it desenes The treasury is upon
Secretary Fosters statements able to meet
all obligations and the monetary outlook is
clear until the fall When the crop move-
ment begins then caution will be necessary
It is likely that through sales of produeo
and possibly securities we shall regain
much of the gold recently spared Tho
bank reserves are in good Whape and it
need not be forgotten that each year the
West shows itself less and less dependent
upon tho East for its supplies of money
and the coming fall may prove no exception
We do not look for any radical or imme-
diate change in tho stock market but the
present position of affairs certainly justi-
fies taking a more hopeful opinion regard-
ing tho future and good stocks at present
prices ought to yield a profit to buyers with
reasonable expectations HenhtClew
