SHREVEPORT, La., April 13.—
State and federal officers were con-
centrated today in the vicinity of
Ringgold, La., in the belief they had
“trapped” Clyde Barrow, notorious
southwest outlaw and killer.
Department of justice agents al-
ready stationed in the vicinity were
reinforced late today by police and
deputies sheriff from here and a
number of Texas rangers.
A message, believed to be from
department of justice agents late to-
day, expressed the belief the desper-
ado and killer was surrounded, and
asked that officers be sent to aid
them.
Barrow, another man, and a wo-
man, have been reported seen twice
in the past two weeks in what is
known as the Alabama Bend section,
about six miles west of Ringgold.
Ringgold is about 30 miles southeast
of Shreveport in Bienville parish.
The bandit was reported to have
camped beside the Rocky Mount
Church in that vicinity. Federal
agents in the past several days have
indicated to police that they believ-
ed they were gradually closing in
on Barrow.

The difficulty had been, Jones ex-
plained, that the commission felt it
was inhibited by State law from fur-
nishing supervisory personnel for
work on lateral roads of the type
upon which the relief administration
insists the work must be done.
To mee^ that objection, he added,
Mrs. T. E. Romans and daughter, the administration had agreed to pay.

reimbursing the State. The public
works administration, as originally
planned, would furnish the other 30
per cent.
Gibb Gilchrist, state highway en-
gineer, who has been here conferring
about the situation, was not avail-
able immediately for comment on the
offer, but it was believed that with
the arrival, probably tomorrow, of
John Wood, commission chairman, all
details standing in the way of plac-
ing the program fully into effect
would be cleaned up.
The administration has repeatedly
said it would not'allow work to be
done on designated roads, because it
regarded lateral roads as sounder re-
lief projects, due to the proximity
of more needy.
