Stanley Burgay was bom November 28, 1953 to Dallas and Estelle
| Scott Burgay. He was the fourth child and only son, and was adored by
I his sisters: Ann, Yvonne and Judy. He grew up on hard work, religious
values and a love for the outdoors. He seemed to be bom with the ability
to catch and locate fish, which would become a large part of his adult life.
He had a humble spirit and deep desire to help others. After graduating
from Timpson High School he went to work for the Center Police Depart-
ment where he served for 30 years. During this time it was not unusual
for him to bring a change of clothes and haul pulp wood or take a friend
fishing after his shift. After retirement, he was elected Constable and was
I still serving this office at his death.
Stanley has been called a “hero”, and that speaks volumes. As a law
| enforcement officer, he went well above what was expected of him. Nearly
everyone had his personal cell phone number and no matter where he was
or what he was doing, day or night, he answered the calls. Everyone was
treated with the same dignity and respect. By example, Stanley showed
all of us, whether it was family, friends, co-workers or a criminal he had
to deal with, that doing the right thing was always the way to go, that it
is important to be good to ALL people, not just “good” people. No story
can be told of him that doesn’t include how genuinely kind and respectful
he was to others. “If he could tell us all one thing, it would be to honor
God, love your family and help your neighbor, because that’s what life is
about”, says his son, Stephen.
The community has been touched by the passing of this dear man. Fu-|
neral services had to be moved to the John D. Windham Civic Center tol
compensate for the mass of 1900-plus mourners that turned out to pay theirj
last respects and give heart-felt condolences to the family. We all mourn hisl
death but celebrate his life. There is not enough space in this newspaper!
to fully express the emotions felt by his loving wife, Betty, his children,!
grandchildren and friends, but in the following pages, readers who never!
knew him can get a glimpse of the legacy he began. If you would like to|
share your own personal story or photos go to www.forever-missed.coi
