MHS graduate named
Hitter of the Week
With stats that any pro would be proud of, Alyssa
Galaz, 2013 Mineola High School graduate, and out-
standing MHS athlete was named Lone Stare Con-
ference Hitter of the Week after helping the Texas
Women's University Pioneers to a 3-1 series win at
#2 West Texas A&M the week of April 21.
Galaz led the Pioneers with three homeruns, eight
RBI, six runs and a 1.143 slugging percentage in the
four games. She hit two homeruns and drove in five
runs in game one of the series including the game-
winning run in a 13-10 win. This locked up the sec-
ond seed for TWU in the 2015 Lone Star Conference
Championship.
In the month of April her stats included a team best
.479 average, 23 hits, six homeruns, 20 RBI, 19 runs
and a .938 slugging percentage.
The Pioneers finished second in the final LCS regu-
lar season standings and received a bye in the open-
ing round of the LCS Championship tournament.
TWU defeated Tarlington State 9-1 in five innings
in the quarterfinals of the LCS Championship tour-
nament Friday. Galaz scored two runs when she hit
her 11th homerun of the year to help send her team
to the championship Saturday in Canyon.
In the championship game Saturday the Pioneers
fell 9-6 to West Texas A&M.

gave the Lady Buffaloes a 4-2 lead
going into the fifth inning.
The Lady Jackets couldn't get in-
to an offensive rhythm in the fifth,
as they went hitless. Bell gave up
a double in the bottom of the fifth
to Stephanie Holder but she was
eventually thrown out trying to tag
up to third by Skinner as the Lady
Js had a two-run deficit going into
the sixth.
Kassy Skinner started things off
with a single past the shortstop and
Warnick walked to put runners on
first and second with no outs.
McCalla hit into a fielder's choice,
but it allowed runners to advance
to second and third before Carissa
Benavides came up with a clutch
two-RBI single to tie the game at
four. Nichols threw two straight
strikeouts to end the top of the
sixth.
After giving up a double to cen-
terfield, Bell was relieved by Green
who had help from her teammates.
Back-to-back great catches by Mc-
Calla and Hannah McKinney and a
ground-out kept the score 4-4 going
into the seventh and final inning.
Manda Wilmoth reached on an
error to start things off before reach-
ing second on a wild pitch. Bush
hit an RBI double to left centerfield
as Mineola pulled ahead 5-4.
Lady Jacket starting centerfielder
Skinner had an RBI and reached
third base on an errant Lady Buf-
falo throw as Mineola expanded
their lead. McCalla's RBI single
put Mineola up 7-4. Lone Oak
would need a repeat of the previ-
ous night's seventh inning if they
wanted to win.
Green had other plans as she
retired the side by forcing two
ground-outs and a fly ball to Skin-
ner.
Bell pitched five innings and only
gave up seven hits while striking
out three. Green pitched two in-
nings in relief and didn't give up a
hit or walk.
McCalla led the way offensively
for the Lady Js with her 2-3 per-
formance at the plate. She had a
double and three RBI on Friday.
Skinner pitched in two singles and
an RBI while Bush had a single,
double and an RBI.
The Mineola Lady Jackets opened
playoff action against Lone Oak
Thursday night in Van and lost 3-1
in the first game of the three-game
series. Although the Lady Jackets
held a 1-0 lead going into the final
inning, Lady Buffalo starting pitch-
er Nichols' one-hit 14-strikeout

performance ultimately made the
difference.
Bell took the mound to start the
game and got off to a hot start with
a quick 1,2,3 inning and two strike-
outs in the first.
Lady Jacket Green walked in the
first and advanced to second on a
wild pitch but Mineola's offense
was stagnant from start to finish.
Lone Oak's Kaylee Isenburg
opened the second with a double
that reached the fence in right field.
The Lady Buffalo coaches dialed
up a hit-and-run which was quick-
ly axed by Green, who caught a
line drive at third base and tossed
the ball over to second for a double
play.
A groundout to McCalla ended
the top half of the inning as the
game remained scoreless going
into the bottom of the second.
Mineola opened with two strike-
outs and a ground-out by Bena-
vides ended the second inning with
each team still looking for their first
run.
Lady Buffalo Sarah Kizer started
things off with a double to center-
field before Bell got her third strike-
out of the game. A great play by
Lady Jacket Skinner kept Lone Oak
off the scoreboard and a groundout
to McKinney ended the top of the
third.
A walk by Bell opened the in-
ning and she reached second on a
wild pitch. Wilmoth came to the
plate and hit a clutch RBI single to
left centerfield to score Bell which
put Mineola in front 1-0. Wilmoth
reached second on a wild pitch but
Nichols ended the threat with her
fifth strikeout as the Lady Jackets
held a one-run lead going into the
fourth.
Bell gave up a single in the fourth
but no damage was done and Nich-
ols struck out the side as the game
remained 1-0 in favor of Mineola
going into the fifth inning.
McKinney made a solid catch at
second base to open the fifth and
Bell got her fourth strikeout to
make quick work of the side and
advance the game into the bottom
of the fifth.
Bell and Nichols continued their
pitching duo and both consecu-
tively retired the side until the bot-
tom of the sixth. Wilmoth walked
on four pitches and Audrey Bush
laid down a sacrifice bunt to move
Wilmoth to second. Wilmoth ad-
vanced to third on a wild pitch but
Nichols struck out two straight bat-
ters as the score still remained 1-0
in favor of Mineola going into the
seventh and final inning.
Green was placed on the mound
in hopes of closing out the game.
However, Lone Oak had other
ideas. A single to right field opened
the inning and a ground out to Mc-
Calla advanced the runner to sec-
ond. An infield hit put runners
on first and third with only one
out prompting Head Coach Rhea-
gan Penn to place Bell back on the
mound.
Lady Buffalo Kylie White hit an
RBI single to centerfield to tie the
game at one and Kizer hit a clutch
RBI double to left centerfield to put
Lone Oak in front 2-1. Eventually
the Lady Buffalos fifth hit of the
inning, an RBI double by Becca
Schumann put Lone Oak up 3-1
going into the bottom half of the
seventh.
Mineola senior Warnick drew
a walk to open the inning but the
Jackets couldn't get a read on Nich-
ols as she struck out her 14th batter
to end the game. Lone Oak took a
1-0 lead in the best of five series.
The lone hit of the night came
from Wilmoth in the bottom of
the third, which was a double.
Warnick, Wilmoth and Bell each
walked once.
On the mound Bell pitched 6 2/3
innings while allowing only six hits
and no walks. She also struck out
four.

A Satisfied Customer
To Whom it May Concern:
This letter is to advise about the excellent service
I recently received from Hometown Roofing &
Construction the owner named Carl Humes. I
called Hometown Roofing & Construction on
December 15, 2014, to find out how to deal with
a problem with my roof. Carl Humes came to my
home measured and quoted me a price. Carl Humes
dealt with my insurance company and mortgage
company and in the end got my roof installed with
only my deductible as an out of pocket expense.
I expected a high level of service from this company,
and I was not disappointed. His crew came to my
home on 12/21/2014 at approximately 8:30am and
was completely finished by 3:30 pm that afternoon.
They cleaned up all trash and made sure there were
no nails that could come in contact with my vehicle
tires. I will be informing my friends and family
about this experience.
Sincerely,
James E Cannada
