athletic young woman dressed as
one. Gina Phelps asked her sister
what she wanted for her birthday
which was Dec. 30 and her an-
swer was only one thing. Phelps'
run through Mineola that morn-
ng dressed in her giraffe onesie
and cat 11 the hat socks was the
fulfillment of that request. Phelps
started her 4 14 me route by the
f irst Baptist Church and headed
down highway 80 to Loop 564 n
front of the schools. She continued
on Highway 69 past city hall and
came back on Johnson Street for
the conclusion. Gina, left, is shown
wih her sister, Ricki Lee Phelps,
who got into the spirit of things.

Twelfth annual
Pilot Valentine
Dinner Dance
next month
"An Evening in Paris" has been announced as the
theme for the Pilot Club of Mineola's Valentine Din-
ner-Dance and the 12th annual fundraiser will be
Saturday, Feb. 7 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Mineola
Civic Center.
Music will be provided by Dale Cummings, "Mr.
C," and this year's Master of Ceremonies Jason Hen-
derson will provide entertainment.
There will be local celebrity waiters who raise mon-
ey with their tips and the usual live and silent auc-
tions. Last year's waiters raised $1,682, with Mine-
ola Fire Chief David Madsen winning with the most
tips. The Mineola High School Anchor Club will sell
purses for their fundraiser with a surprise in one of
the bags.
Tickets may be purchased from Pilot Club mem-
bers for $20 or $120 for a table of six and $160 for
a table of eight. For reservations, call Ann Alotto at
903-780-4962 or Fundraising Chairman Mitzi Pearce
at 903-569-5561.
This is the major fundraiser for the Pilot Club, which
works in the area of brain education and disabilities.
One of their many projects is Project Lifesaver, which
they share with the Quitman and Winnsboro clubs.
Project Lifesaver supplies tracking bracelets (trans-
mitters) for people with wandering diseases such as
Alzheimer's. For more information on this project,
call Joyce Curry at 903-569-2729.
Friends of the Mineola
Memorial Library to meet
The Friends of the Mineola Library will meet at 1
p.m. Thursday and tour the Beckham Hotel which
has been under restoration in downtown Mineola.
After a short business meeting at the library, the
Friends will move to the hotel on East Commerce
Street to meet with Connie and Ron Meissner to hear
of the improvements they have made since buying
the 122-year-old hotel in 2012.
The Friends work to help the library, which is a pri-
vate, non-profit organization that is not supported by
taxes.
Southwestern Exposition and
Livestock show approaching
The 119th Southwestern Exposition and Livestock
Show will kick off Friday, Jan. 16 with the tradition-
filled Ranching Heritage Weekend, presented by
Western Horseman and will run through Saturday,
Feb. 7.
Some highlights include "Best of the West" Ranch
Rodeo - Jan. 16 and 17, Cowboys of Color Rodeo -
Jan. 19; "Bulls' Night Out' Fort Worth Stock Show's
Extreme Bull Riding - Jan. 20 and 21; Fort Worth Su-
per Shootout Rodeo - Jan. 22 and World's Original
Indoor Rodeo - Jan. 23 through 29.
