Proceeds of Musgraves' benefit
concert come home to Wood County
The fruit of the efforts
of Kacey Musgraves' ben-
efit concert has been yielded
and this month the proceeds
have begun to be distributed
among the six Wood County
public school districts.
Mineola Assistant City Ad-
ministrator Mercy Rushing
provided a list of the break-
down of the $65,700 that
was raised. The money was
raised from ticket sales, do-
nations, an auction and ven-
dor booths. Over 4,000 peo-
ple attended the concert and
more than 200 volunteers
helped pull off the event. The
afternoon included a lineup
of Wood County music stu-
dents taking the stage. Wade
Bowen and John & Jacob
opened the concert at the na-
ture preserve for Musgraves.
In addition to monetary

proceeds, an estimated
$40,000 in technology and
infrastructure improvements
were made at the nature pre-
serve as a result of the con-
cert with donations of labor,
services and materials.
The disbursements to the
school districts were based
on school enrollment ob-
tained from administration
office officials for pre-kinder-
garten through 12th grades.
Mineola School District's
check was presented last
Monday during the January
school board meeting, with
Karen Musgraves, Kacey's
mom, reading a letter from
the entertainer.
"I so wish I could be there
to give this to you in person,"
Kacey wrote.
"I hope the students who
are to benefit from this will
have even more of a reason to
stay and be interested. Texas
is full of brilliant, budding
artists of every kind and I
want these kids to know that
it is possible to reach far be-
yond our small towns and go
for what many feel impracti-
cal or impossible."
She thanked all of the vol-
unteers and sponsors who
made the concert possible, as
well as her band and all the
musicians who donated their
time, and the fans. She con-
tinued in her thanks, "to ev-
eryone else for helping to get
me to a place where I'm able
to give back even just a little.
It means more than you'll
ever know!"
The check to Musgraves'
alma mater, Mineola, was for
$16,951.
Check amounts to other
school districts were Winns-
boro, $15,661; Quitman,
$12,150; Alba-Golden, $9,370;
Hawkins, $7,719 and Yantis,
$3,849.
