Mineola Livestock Show held last Saturday
Area 4-H and FFA members flocked to the Mine-
ola Livestock Show held last Saturday. A total of 248
entries from FFA chapters and 4-H clubs across East
Texas vied for top honors at the Lester Cole and Mer-
edith Show Arenas at Mineola High School.
Students participated in a variety of categories in-
cluding, 102 breeding and commercial beef heifers,
41 hogs, 38 goats, 26 dairy heifers, 28 lambs and 26
steers.
The show is a project of the Mineola Hay Show and
the work is done by members of the Mineola FFA
Alumni Chapter and members of the Mineola FFA.
Loyd Nations served as the judge for this year's
market livestock show and Bennie Whitworth judged
beef and dairy heifers. The market hogs were fol-
lowed by commercial heifers, market lambs, market
goats and market steers in the Meredith Arena while
dairy cattle and beef heifers competed in the Lester
Cole Arena. Judging began at 10 a.m. and concluded
at 3 p.m.
The judging was completed with champions and
reserve champions being named in each class as well
as showmanship winners.
Quitman FFA member Marcus Pollard brought
home Senior Showmanship in Hogs. Hawkins FFA
member Tyler Willard won Senior Showmanship.
Junior Showmanship in the lambs category was won
by Hawkins FFA member Chrissy Roush.
Fruitvale FFA member Colby Bain won Senior
Showmanship in the lamb category while Winnsboro
FFA member Peyton Coke won Jersey Breed Cham-
pion and Milking Shorthorn Champion in the dairy
heifer category.
Wood County Junior Livestock
Show slated for April 14-16
The public is invited to
attend the annual Wood
County Junior Livestock
Show Thursday through
Saturday, April 14-16
at the Lester Cole Show
Arena located behind
Mineola Middle School.
Both first timers and
seasoned exhibitors
from Wood County FFA
Chapters and 4-H Clubs
will be on hand to show
over 200 animals and ag-
ricultural projects over
the course of the event.
Things kick off Thurs-
day with the agricultural
mechanics project judg-
ing at 1 p.m. followed by
the broiler show at 7 p.m.
Friday judging will be-
gin with the swine show
at 8 a.m. followed by the
commercial heifer show,
10:30 a.m.; the steer
show, 11:30 a.m.; the rab-
bit show, 12:30 p.m.; the
dairy show, 2 p.m.; the
goat show, 3 p.m. and
the lamb show, 4 p.m.
Showmanship judging
will immediately follow
each individual show.
Saturday at noon, a
Buyers Stew will be held
at the MMS cafeteria
on Loop 564 next to the
football field. It will be
served by well-known
