Friends and family mourning loss of MHS senior
Friends and family are mourn-
ing the death of a 17-year-old
Mineola High School senior,
Chris Wright, on Friday.
According to KMOO news,
Mr. Wright died after being
rushed to the hospital with
a complication of a disease,
Ehler-Danlos syndrome, he had
battled all his life. He died at a
Tyler hospital.
Mineola High School Princi-
pal David Sauer said that coun-
selors and local ministers were
on hand to help students deal
with their grief over the loss of
their friend. He said the seniors
were particularly devastated by
the death.
He and the counselor and an
assistant principal had gone
to the hospital and when they
returned set up a counseling
area in the school library. "We
had several students who had
to leave, who had their parents
come pick them up," Sauer said.
School counselors have a sort
of protocol for these sorts of
things, the high school princi-
pal said. They put up banners
in the hallways and students
were able to sign their names
and write messages about their
friend.
"It was all such a shock and
short notice. The kids just
weren't prepared for it," said

Voting pace heats up
towards Election Day
Wood County Elections Administrator Dawn Gold-
thorn's description of the early voting pace for Tues-
day's general election sounds like the name of a hot rod
movie.
"It's going fast and furious," Goldthorn said Monday
around noon. She had just checked the number of early
voters in person and that totaled 1,824 with 214 already
voting Monday before lunch. "That's hopping," the elec-
tions administrator said.
Early voting continues through 5 p.m. Friday at the
courthouse.
For those going to cast their ballots on Election Day,
Tuesday (Nov. 4), the polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Mineola area voters in Pets. 2-1 and 2-3, will vote at
the Mineola Civic Center on Newsom Street. Pet. 2-2 will
vote at city hall.
Pet. 2 voters will not have any contested elections on
the county level. There are several offices up for election

Contest in Mt. Pleasant and we were
truly amazed by the Mineola band
performance. It was as good of a band
performance as any I have person-
ally watched in my 35 years serving
as a superintendent. They earned the
number 1 rating, and what is so great
each judge rated them number 1. Yes,
