The Leader is ready to do its
part in any enterprise for the gen

have to do is to call upon it. It is
here to work for the advance-
ment of all that is good and to all
it can to retard evil.
The norther predicted by the
weather bureau has not yet, ma-
terialized, but it would be well to
continue to keep your weather-
eye open towards the north. It
is about the season for a change.
The J
Houston
Chronicle
It was a pleasant time for the
picnickers who went to the
Brooks crossing on the Lampasas
river yesterday to enjoy the day.
They took along plenty of re-
freshments for the inner man, so
that if they failed to get plenty
of fish they would still have
^enough and to spare. They were
fortunate in entangling *a good
mess of perch and cat fish, and
one very fine specimen of the
carp tribe was also landed. They
had a good dinner, a fine day and
last returned to town late in the after-
noon well repaid for their efforts.
The following were in the party:
R. E. Noble and family, F. A.
Burns and family, Mrs. W. F.
Barnes and daughter, J. Clair
Smith and wife, Arthur Noble
and wife, Mrs. Ernest Noble and
son and Mrs. W. W. Allen, who
joined the party at her home on
Lucy creek. This is a famous
fishing ground, and will probably
be visited by others from Lam-
pasas during the season.
Col. J. J. Hill, well known here
died Wednesday at his home in
Kaufman Texas. He owns the
business property occupied by J.
D. Cassell and Roberts & Howard

For City Treasurer,

Attention is again directed to
Sutherland Springs, Wilsoii co.
and it is believed a good oil field
will be developed there. The
conditions are much the same at
this place as at Sutherland Spgs,
except that here we have extwrior
much more broken and more, of
rocky surface. The springs are
not exactljydentical in their anal-
ysis, but t-Ireir medicinal powfers
are much the same. . It may be
that Lampasas will^et come to
the front as an oil producing sec-
tion. The conditions indicate
that there is oil here, and it may
in time be developed. One dry
hole does not discourage an en-
thusiastic believer in natural in-
dications and geological forma-
tions.
Removal Notice,
G. L. Crawford has removed
his market to the old Middlebrook
stand at the northeast corner of
the square, where he will be glad
to see you aud furnish you with
the best to be had in the line of
moats, fish, or other market
goods. Orders filled regularly,
or transiently, by call, by tele-
phone or at the stand. , He would
like your standing orders, dsat
It is now stated that some of
the deals of Sully &, Co. will be
uncovered by their enemies.
Possibly some other things will
come to light in the investiga-
tion. That is the rule, at least.
Will A. Barnes
Contractor and! Carpenter
Furnishes estimales and contracts for
all kinds of buildings. Also do re-
modeling, general repairing and job
work. Plenty of hired hands.
San Saba voted on local op-
tion yesterday, and the result
showed over two hundred major-
ity for the pros. San Saba has
been under the local option law
for quite a while, and nearly al-
ways increases its previous ma-
jorities when another election is
held; It is true there is consider-
able liquor shipped into that
county, but there are no open sa-
loons, and while this fact seems
to be not generally known, that
is what the prohibitionists are
trying to do away. There will
never be a time when some people
will not drink, but the day of the
public resort will soon be' num-
bered. .
