TAXPAYERS
Your atteotUm has been called to
your unpaid city taxes on previous no-
tices thru the columns of The Panolx
Watchman and so far we have had
little response from same. In these
former notices we pleaded with you
to come forward and pay yonr city
taxes calling your attention to the fqct
that the city could not function
properly and psy Its debts promptly
without its citizens as a whole'come
forward and do their duty by paying
tbeir taxes. You canaot expect any
relief from the heavy tax that Is
now upon you unless you do your
part. And It is not the desire of the
administration to come bard on any-
one or to offend anyone. But U is
the duty of this administration 0 to
conduct the city’s affairs In a busi-
ness like manner the same as your
banks or yoar merchants; and If we
fall in that then we hare not don*
our sworn duty to the city and the
citizens of Carthage. Therefore we
come to you again bagging of you
to come forward and pay your city
taxes. If you can’t pay It all at one
time, maybe that wa can arranga it
so you can take care of it in a man-
ner that will not work such a hard-
ship upon you. Show some disposi-
tion In the matter that may work
out a mutual, benefit to yourself as
well as the city. The administration
cannot help but enforce some means
of which to collect those taxes. And
wa are now coming to you with our
last appeal, begging you to come fop
ward and aava any hard footings
that might arise in the future. Now
the taxes are already delinquent but
we ara going to aat June 30th as the
last day In which to pay these taxes
without penalty after which there
will be added a 10 per cent penalty.
Respectfully,
A. L. Davis, Mayor,
City of Carthage.
