Of Oid Court House
EDITOR'S NOTE: Mora comment
about the Court houee *u received
recently from Mrs. 0. J. Hunt.
I am very eeattmental about this
one time beautiful building. Too, I’m
ooploualy full of civic pride. My first
recollectkme date back to the big ho!

folks would erect la the Mg court
room upstairs which was so beaut I
fully ltghtad with wall lamps that had
reflectors which helped with the IHu

homemade decorations mads of tin
foil, as well es the gifts on the tree
Everything special was carried to the

tion other than the Methodist, or Bap-
tist. would hold their meeting there

made tn this room of the Hull of Jus-

Prohibition and Anti-Prohibition. On
one occasion Cyclone Davis was to
speak for prohibition, and my father

ed that our parlor lamp he carried
there and placed on .the speakers

it got broken. My! What a tragedy.
On 8unday afternoon we would go
there tn great bunchea to ascend the
MTow Ultra which led 'o the cupolo
atop the building to view the sur-
rounding territory for miles, thinking
we had accomplished a great feat, and
on coming down we were thinking
what a big world this Is.
We reverenced this place next to
the church. Why not? It was the pride
of our life. Its architecture was un-
surpassed.
Within ite smoke and amber sea-
soned walls human life has come In-

the loft detract from the original plan
make a vary different picture. The on-
polo with Its flagpole on which the
Stars and Stripes would float on pa-
triotic occasions, have long since
been done away with. The beautiful
oaks, the well, the water trough, the
fence, the stUee, end hitching racks
have vanished as has so many of Pa-
nola County’s good citizens who were
responsible for Its being built, giving
their pieces to perhaps n more up to
date generation, and prosperity.

reason to apply It to material things,

ing our age, and general appearance,
but this has not been done to our
much beloved Hall of Justice. It has
not even had Its face powdered or
painted. Old hulldlnga are being rais-
ed dally giving place to more modern
structures. This la progressiveness.
The younger generation will he Just

when It was built Then with brave
hearts say farewell to this tried ser-
vant of the people, and for the people
of Panola County. Peace to Its ashes
which should go to fill the ditches and
drains around the town that neglect-
ed it those many years. Let It Just
fade away.
Then on this Hallowed spot let
there be erected a nice brick library
with all convenient accomodations for
the public, and dedicate It to the me-
mory of Jonlthan Anderson, who gave
the 100 acre town site to the people
of Panola County, and whose descen-
dants still live In and around Car-

and generosity, to kindred and
friends.
