grand guy last week. Many of you.
like the writer, remember Jim Thorpe
the great Carlisle Indian football and
Olympic hero; Just last year he was
voted the number one athlete of the
Twentieth Century. The writer never
saw him In hla amateur days, but we
did see him when he was a member
of the N. T. Giants baseball team.
Now last week he was discharged by
a celebrated Philadelphia surgeon af-
ter a very serious cancer operation.
There was no charge by the surgeon
as Jim was "broke and destitute.” Af-
ter reading this, do as the writer did

The first In a aeries of parties hon-
oring Miss Donna Schley Osborne,
bride-elect of Philip Burton Koonce
Jr., was given Saturday evening by
Mr. and Mrs. George Berry Weal at
their home on North Market Street.
A tall arrangement of orchid chry-
santhemums and pink carnations with
lace fern were centered on tho man-
tel. Pink china phehfants wore plac-
ed on oitber side of the arrangement.
On the piano was a miniature wed-
ding party with the bride and groom
In their traditional wedding dress fol-
lowed by a little flower girl dressed
in pink tafetta. Three bridesmaids
were dressed In pastel shade* of pink,
blue and orchid taffeta covered with
nylon net.
The hostess presented Mis# Os-
borne with a gift of allver wrapped in
bridal paper and tied with a large
pink satin how.
Those attending besides the hono-
ree were Philip koonce Jr.. Mr. and
Mrs. Schley Osborne. Dr. P. B.
Koonce. Mrs. C. J. ^Lambrerht. the
host and hostess.
Arrangement of pink and violet car-
nations and chrysanthemums were
placed at vantage points In the apa-
clone living loom. Judy Heaton greet
ed the gaests at the door. Tho receiv-
ing Hue was composed of Mrs. Hardin.

bride-elect. Mian Dorothy Chadwick
and Mrs. J. R. Brannon. Mlaa Anna

rangement of pink carnations with
