The first week of district court in
Lampasas was brought to .a close Fri-
day morning, September 5, when
Judge Brewster dismissed the petit
jury for the week. The case of Grady
Evans vs. A. J. DeSpain which was
called for Friday was postponed until
Friday, September 12.
The following transpired in the
court Thursday afternoon:
State of Texas vs. Arthur Shep-
pard, charged witn transporting' in-
toxicating liquor. Defendant’s motion
for continuance overruled but case
postponed until Monday, Sept. 8, 1930.
Beulah Mahana vs. Monroe Mahana,
divorce. Dismissed on motion of plain-
tiff at plaintiff’s cost.

U. D. C. CHAPTER HOLD
MEETING THURSDAY
The Woman’s Council of the Cen-
tral Christian Chui'ch met in their
business session Tuesday afternoon.
Reports were made on the car of
paper that is to be shipped on Nov-
ember 1.
It was decided by vote of the coun-
cil to solicit orders for Christmas
cards and that each member would
start to work at once taking orders.

Mrs. R. H. Perry of San Marcos,
daughter of Dr. and Mrs. D. W. BLack
of Lampasas,,underwent a very seri-
ous operation Wednesday in a Tem-
ple hospital. She was reported Fri-
day to be getting along very nicely.

U. D. C. met. Thursday afternoon at!
the home of Mrs. R. S. Mills. The ■
treasurer gave a good report which
was followel by the discussion of plans
to award two prizes, one in the gram-
mar school and one in the high school,
for the best essay on the life of Rob- j
ert E. Lee. These essays ai'e to be \
finished and judged before Jan. 19, j
1931 as that day is used as a study
by the chapter to commemorate Lee’s
birthday.
Mrs. J. R. Key gave quite an in-
teresting description of her recent
visit to the home of Sam Houston at
Huntsville and also to the historic
towns of Independence and Washing-
ton.
