Ector, 5-3
Lefty Luis Hernandez pitched
a five-hitter Saturday afternoon
as the Kermit Bees won a close
ball game over the Ector B
team, 5*3. Hernandez struck out
- 10 and walked only one as the
Kermit B team came from be-
hind with a four-run outburst
in the fifth inning for their win.
Kermit counted first in the first
inning. George Coffee walked with
one away and scored on Corky
Rivera’s single and Gary bailey’s
fielder’s choice.
Ector came back to go ahead
with three runs in the third.
Four singles, an error and a
fielder’s choice accounted for
their three tallies.
The Bees scored four runs
on only one hit in the fifth. Two
Ector errors and a base on badls
helped as the Bees sent eight
men to the plate.
In the sixth they loaded the
bases on D. V. Edwards’ second
hit, a walk to Zane Nutt and a
one-base blow by James Cleve-
land. However, they could not
push a run across.
Next game for the Bees will
be Monday, March 28, when Pecos
will be at Yellow Jacket Field
for a 4:30 p.m. game.

STOPPING A HIGH, BOUNDING BALL, Andy Mullen gets
into action in this shot made Friday afternoon on the local
diamond, when Permian was the guest team.
Permian Tops
Jackets, 7-3
The Permian Panthers used
the long ball and effective pitch-
ing to subdue the Kermit yellow
Jackets Friday afternoon at Ker-
mit, 7-3.
Permian blasted out 12 hits,
including two home runs, a triple,
and a double, to go along with
the six-hit pitching of a quartet
of Panther hurlers.
One run came in quickly for
Permian. With one away, Lacy
beat out a hit to the second
baseman. He stole second and
held up there as Phil Moore
made a spectacular diving catch
of Mike Campbell’s line drive to
center. Byerly then laced a hit
to left field which bounced over
Joe Scott’s head for a triple,
scoring Lacy.
The Jackets loaded the bases
in their half, but failed to score.
In the second inning the visitors
tallied three more runs. With
one away, Van Stavern beat out
a hit to third. Walsh popped high
to third base which fell in for a
hit. McComas, the pitcher, then
unloaded a home run over the
center field fence, chasing Van
Stavern and Walsh home ahead of
him.
Byerly added one more run
to the Permian side of the ledger
with a terrific blast over the
left field fence in the third in-
ning. The final Panther runs
were scored in the fourth frame.
Walsh beat out a slow roller
to first base, but was picked
off by Jerry Edwards, on the
mound for Kermit. McComas
singled and advanced when the
ball was fumbled momentarily.
Jordan singled to left center,
with McComas going to third.
Campbell doubled to right center
scoring both runners.
The Jackets were having trou-
ble at the plate and waited until
their half of the seventh to tally,
Parnell Skinner started off by
drawing a walk. After Don Clax-
ton struck out Jim Reynolds also
walked. Joe Scott took a third
strike, but Jerry Edwards sin-
gled scoring Skinner.
When Walsh, Permian catcher
threw wild to third base, Rey-
nolds also scored. Eddie Hazel
kept up the bombardment by
banging out a single to score
Edwards. Andy Mullen walked
and George Coffee, hitting for
Carroll Samuels, was hit by the
pitcher. Phil Moore, who repre-

sented the tying run, hit a sharp
ground ball to Jordan at short
stop, who made a fine play to nip
Moore at first.
helped home in 1:55.2. The old
mark of 1:58.1 was established
last year by Gary Hollis of
Hobbs, N. M.
Eddie Everett of Kermit won
the pole vault with a leap of
13’1”. It had been doubtful that
Everett would be in top shape
after injuring an ankle earlier
in the season.
Mike Pulattie threw the shot
49’ 2%” to capture fifth place
in that event. Grady Lewis hauled
in first place in the high jump
with a leap of 6’0”. Mike
Hodges came in third after ty-
ing for second, Ed Elkins was
awarded second place on few-
er misses. They each went 5’10”.
The 440-yard relay team fin-
ished fourth. Members of the
team were Billy Thompson, Don-
ny Johnson, Alonzo Vejil, and
Eddie Adams. In the 220-yard
dash, Adams placed fifth.
A great finishing kick got
David Bizzell a second place in
the mile run. Trailing David Ram-
sey of Monahans by almost 50
yards with 220 to go, Bizzell
almost caught the Monahans
-runner and finished only 1.1 sec-
onds behind.
Monahans had ace sprinter
Ricky Potts for only the 440-
yard relay. Potts had been ill
this week and his coach decided
to use him only in the one event.

i TWINS GOOD ON ROAD
MINNESOTA (AP) - To win a
baseball pennant you must do
well on the road. The Minnesota
Twins followed this axiom by
winning 51 of 80 road games in
1965. The Chicago White Sox
were next best away from home,
taking 47 and losing 34.
