Plain Facts
About Merchandise
. ..> .
Present and future prices is one of the things •
about which most people are greatly concerned. A
most serious problem it is, and we are frank to say
that we do not believe anyone can accurately forecast results for a
longer period than six months. For that time we can honestly pre-
dict that Merchandise is going to be very Scarce, while prices on
most lines will continue up grade. As a matter of fact much of our
Merchandise is now being sold at prices very much lower than you
would have to pay if our purchases had not been made early. •
Early buying is not only suggested, but Earnestly Urged. Our
stock is complete to a degree which we cannot hope to attain later
and there is no question about it that you will certainly have to pay
higher prices later. Buy what you need now and save the difference.

Cotton Moving Slowly
Local Rina h»vw turned out
only 180 bale* of cotton since our
report laat week. This is due to
weather conditions,' but a few
days of sunshine is having effect
and if the weather stays clear it
will not be long until the gins
are running day and nightagain.
There have been 8,089 bales gin-
ned, at Deport to date, as follows:
Deport gin 1.47B, Home gin 642.
Gunn gin 969. Cotton receipts
at the local yard total 5,600 bales,
and there are four bales in Xhe
warehouse. Tbo price of the
staple has continued to climb
during the past two weeks with
hardly a break. Prices paid at
Deport range from 40 to 49oents,-
depending largely on the condi-
tion, color and length of staple.
Horse Falls in Washout
While making his rounds Tues-
day W. R. Bishop, carrier on
Route 8 came near having a ser-
ious accident. While riding along
a hard-beaten trail on the road
a half mile east of ihe home of
Mrs. Sallie Young, he was forced,
on account of a mud hole, to ride
near the rim of a washout. The
,bank caved in and the horse
went into it on his hack. Mr.
Bishop saved hiinself by falling
off on tiie other side. Assisted
by E J. Jeffus, shovels were se-
cured and the horse was dug out
Circulating Worthless Checks
A young man wrho has been
working in Deport for a short
while, ciiculated several worth-
less check among local merchants
recently. They were drawn on
a Winfield bank and returned,
"No Funds.” One was for $20,
given to Hudson-Davis Co., and
two others for $2 each, given to
! Allen & Strickland and Spears
& Adams. The boy has left town
and officers will be given the job
of locating him.
