Rebel-Lady Rebel junior high compete at Chisum
The Rebel and Lady Rebel 7th and
8th grade teams competed at the
Chisum Tournament Thursday, Nov.
30 through Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000.
On Thursday the 8th grade Lady
Rebels led off for Rivercrest playing
the Mt. Vernon 7th grade team and
took a huge 50-12 win over the
younger girls. Kendra Birchfield was
high scorer for the Lady Rebels with
15 points followed by Johna Ingram
with 12 and Cassie McCuller with
10. Also adding points were Leslie
Richeson-7, Jill Shirley-4, Tracy
Galloway, Haley Hawkins and Lind-
sey Robertson all with 2 each. Con-
tributing on the defense were Kasey
Van Deaver, Dana Crawford and
Kerri Simmons. All of the team
members got good playing time ex-
perience.
The 8th grade Rebels followed the
girls next and drew tough with Mt.
Vernon who had a distinct height
advantage. The Rebels who are few
in number worked hard but at the half
trailed 21-8. R.C. Pitts, McKenzie
Ellis, Clinton Vandever and Matt
Ross had all scored. Also contribut-
ing to the game were Jordan Edge,
John Ed Graf, Payden Franks, Jake
Raulston and Johnathan Ridens.
Mt. Vernon held their lead to go on
and win the game placing the Rebels
in the loser's bracket.
At the same time as the 8th grade
boys, the Rebel 7th grade played in
the Chisum Elementary gym against
Honey Grove. The Rebel varsity
could not provide a more exciting
game. The 7 member Rebel team
would go up by 1, then fall behind by
1 throughout the game. Dustin Perry
and Adam Horn did a good job of
rebounding and at the post position
on the offense. The rest of the Rebels,
Aaron Palmer, Troy Morris, Keith
Williams, Brad Rolen and Jake
Needham also added hustle on the
defense and scores to push the game
down to the last seconds. Final 19-18
Rebels!!!
In the final game of the evening for
the Rivercrest teams, the 7th grade
Lady Rebels met the Lady Warriors
of Honey Grove. Unlike the 7th grade
boys, numbers are not a problem with
the 7th grade Lady Rebels giving
coaches Debbie Williams and Tammy
Case multi-combinations which they
use to advantage.
At the half the girls trailed by 2
points but in the third they begin to
push harder each new player sent in
adding spice to the game. Their press
in the final quarter and good eyes on
the court made for scores! Final 33-
29 Lady Rebels. The team was led to
victory by Whitney Savage, Cassan-
dra Norman, Mandy Crawford, Tif-
fany Giles and Monica Savage. Con-
tributions to the win were made by
Bailie Spencer, Jesi Navia, Katie
Ward, Sarah Hare, Monique Savage,
Jessica Griffin and Micah Upchurch.
On Friday the 7th grade girls and
boys returned to finish the tourney
and the 8th girls to continue their
tourney. The girls team played first
meeting Cooper for the 1 st place tro-
phy. The Lady Rebels took the first
tip of the ball from Monica Savage to
Cassandra Norman and after one quar-
ter were tied up 6-6 with the Bulldo-
gettes.
At the half the Lady Rebels led 12-
8 but the third quarter saw a change
with the Bulldogettes fighting their
way to the lead. In the final quarter
the game went down to the wire. The
Bulldogettes had a 1 point lead with
:04 seconds left on the clock and with
control of the ball. On the inbound
play Cassandra Norman made the
steal and took extra caution at the
goal to make the winning shot for the
1st place trophy. Final 22-21.
High scorer for the game was a 3
way tie among Cassandra Norman,
Mandy Crawford and Whitney Sav-
age all with 6 points. Also adding
points was Tiffany Giles with 4.
The 7th grade boys met Mt. Ver-
non and were defeated leaving them
with 2nd place in the tournament.
The 8th grade girls met Chisum
and also were defeated leaving them
set to play Cooper on Saturday.
In Saturday’s action the 8th grade
girls returned to defeat Cooper and
finish in a tie for 1st place.
The 8th grade boys also played
their final game of the tourney and
took the win over Chisum to place
2nd in the tournament.
Over all it was good experience for
the teams and each brought home a
place.
On Monday the junior high teams
met Hughes Springs. The girls at
Rivercrest, the boys at Hughes
Springs. The Lady Rebels both won
easily to add district wins to their
records and the 8th grade boys also
won while the 7th grade team was
defeated.

Holiday Tour of Homes Tour scheduled in Pittsburg
"Chestnuts roastine on an ODen nlaces. one in the master hnirmm ________ »_
"Chestnuts roasting on an open
fire,” or was that "hot links smoking
on the grill”? No matter, it's time for
mistletoe and holly and the annual
Holiday Tour of Homes sponosred
by the Pittsburg-Camp County Arts
Council. The event will be held
Sunday, December 3rd from 1:00-
6:00 p.m.
Four homes will be on tour, rang-
ing from a cabin in the woods to a
traditional home facing a golf course.
Dennis and Maggie BoemeT, lived
in a 500 square foot cabin in the
woods, while "the house that Dennis
built”, was being built. Located at the
front of their property, the cabin could
easily be a romantic hid-a-way for a
young married couple, or a quiet get-
a-way for an old married couple.
Walkingdown the lane, the big house
sits amid towering pines. Built of
timber bean and stone construction,
the house projects a feeling of warmth.
Miniature churches*are located
throughout the house as well as many
other items acquired by the couple on
their travels throughout the world.
A circular drive welcomes visitors
to the home of Brenda Barnwell.
Designed by the owner and built in
1984, the home features three fire-
places, one in the master bedroom,
the living room and the glassed-in
sun room over looking the deck. The
back of the house features a large
deck, designed for outdoor entertain-
ing, that overlooks the golf course in
Princedale Country Club. A collec-
tion of lions, as well as a large display
of Santas in one of the bedrooms adds
a whimsical touch. Lush wreaths,
fireplace decorations, twinkling lights
and lustrous bows put the "sparkle"
in this festive home.
In the classic manor of the English,
the home of Steve and Beverly
Spearman sits at the end of a long
driveway, with the view of the golf
course to the west and a hayfield on
the north, providing a feeling of both
town and country. Inside the home
many of the same elements come
together to form an elegant but warm
country feeling. The massive comer
fireplace is the focal point in the den
Comfortable chairs and couches
beckon one with a good book and a
bowl of popcorn. The kitchen is
festive year around with white cabi-
nets and counter tops and green and
white wallpaper. The sports-minded
Mr. Spearman's eclectic taste comes
into play in the game room. An
antique pharmaceutical bar serves as
the focal point for the room, along
with other sports-related items. An-
tiques and art work combine to make
this home a treasure.
Guarding the Lockett-Hampton-
Hobbs house, owned by James Hobbs
and his wife, Kelly Carpenter-Hobbs
a vintage 1900 Victorian-style home,
is 100-year old magnolia tree that
was planted when the house was built.
Over-sized Christmas ornaments
adorn the porch as visitors enter to
the sights and sounds of everything
"Victorian". Seven Christmas trees
are located throughout the home, in-
cluding the "green" tree in the family
dining room. The "Shabby-Chic"
room beckons visitors to curl up for
along winter's nap on the old iron
bed. "This old house” evokes memo
ries of Christmases long ago.
Ticket for the Holiday Tour of
Homes are available at Taylor's Gift
Emporium, Mayben*s Mens wear and
the Carson House Inn and Grille,
Guaranty Bank will serve as tour
headquarters where maps and tickets
will be available. The bank is located
at 116 South Greer Street.
