Time to help children
with gifts for Angel tree
Wc published some of these last
year at Christmastime and had a
great response to them. So, I came
up with some for for everyone to
try! They make great Christmas
gifts for those that are so hard to buy
for. Plus if your list just keeps grow-
ing, just simplify and give "Cook-
ies-in-a-Jar"! Everyone will love
them!
Clear off the kitchen table and fill
as many jars as you think you might
need and then add a few extras.
They are also great for bazaars,
craft sales and all those forgotten
folks that come in at the last
minute!
No wrapping is necessary. Just
top the lid with your favorite fabric
or paper and add some raffia or
ribbon and you arc set! The direc-
tions for completion of the recipe is
added in a gift tag attached to the jar.
By the way, these cookies may
also be used to make bar cookies.
Just mix, press in an 8-inch square
pan and bake for 20 minutes. Better
yet. . .add an aluminum pan to your
gift set and wow what a gift for
someone special!
We hope you enjoy them and we
will see you in the kitchen!
Hazelnut Cookles-ln-a-Jar-this
recipe uses hazelnuts instead of pe-
cans or walnuts for a little different
taste!
Chocolate Lover's Cookies-in-a-
Jar-if you know someone who really
likes chocolate, try these! Three dif-
ferent flavors of chocolate and nuts
can be added also!
Hustle-Bustle Butterscotch
Oatmeal Cookies-in-a-Jar-these
have got to be great cookies with all
those extra ingredients!
Outrageous Oatmeal-Raisin
Cookies-in-a-Jar-what a concoction
for a cookies! These are great and
make a wonderful gift!
Crazy for "Craisins" Cookies-
in-a-Jar-Craisins are actually dried
sweetened cranberries that resemble
raisins and are very good for you!
The annual Christmas Angel Tree,
sponsored by the Clarksville Volun-
teer Fire Department and Red River
County volunteers is presently in
place at the Clarksville Wal-Mart
Store.
Individuals, organizations or
groups may now select angels to spon-
sor from the tree and provide Christ-
mas gifts to disadvantaged children
throughout the county.
Applications, for children 12 years
of age and under, are available at The
Clarksville Times office and post
offices in Avery, Bogata and Detroit.
Parents may pick up, fill out and
drop off applications at those loca-
tions. Applications must returned by
December 5.
All applications are screened for
eligibility.
Angels on the tree are color coded
by town: red angels represents Avery
children: yellow angels represent
Bogata children; blue, Clarksville,
green Detroit.
Unwrapped gifts may be left at the
Clarksville Fire department or at the
Clarksville Wal-Mart where volun-
teers will pick up and wrap the pre-
sents.
According to Charlotte Rozell,
Angel Tree coordinator, monetary
donations are also needed to make
sure each Christmas Angel receives a
Christmas gift. Donations jnay be
mailed to the Clarksville FiieDepart-
ment at 300 N. Pecan Street in Clarks-
ville, Tx. 75426, Mrs. Rozell said.
"Your sponsorship, donations,
guidance and leadership will make a
difference in the lives of all our chil-
dren" she says. "After all, they are our
most precious resource".

The U.S. Postal Service remains
an important part of a government
service that strives toensure the safety
of the public and its employees, espe-
cially during the holiday 4, said Bogata
Postmaster Danny Efaw.
In order to avoid delays as a re-
minder to Bogata residents, special
security rules still apply when mail-
ing stamped packages that weigh one
pound or more.
"Even if you've carefully calcu-
lated and applied the correct amount
of postage you must bring these pack-
ages to the post office for mailing,"
Efaw said.
Packages found in mail collection
boxes, because of security guidelines,
may be returned to sender, Postmas-
ter Efaw explained. The only excep-
tions are business packages and let-
ters that use metered postage, he
added.
Packages for international desti-
nations, including military APO and
FPO addresses, have special Cus-
toms requirements and must also be
mailed personally at the post office,
Efaw added.
In addition, Efaw reminds custom-
ers that all former package markings
and labels must be removed before a
box can be reused for mailing. Par-
cels cannot be accepted if markings
visibly indicate that the box was used
for shopping hazardous material.
Wrapping boxes to cover markings is
not sufficient. If the wrapping is
damaged and markings become vis-
ible, the package will be returned to
the mailer.
