In this article I shall show what
the mission of the church is not,
and iti^next week’s article I shall
discuss its true mission.
Christ never intended that His
church should be merely a social
organization to give social or po-
litical prestige or to enhance one’s
business interests. The various
churches are being used for just
such degrading purposes. No
wonder one can hardly tell the
church members from non-church

OFFICIAL LEGAL NOTICE
to be an organization given to en-
tertaining its members.’ All pro-
grams designed to draw crowds
and to entertain is wholly out of
place in the public worship ser-
vices of tlie church. - May I kind-
ly say that some denominations
have mutilated the gospel to such
an extent that they could never
have an audience were they to
eliminate entertainment. Don’t
criticize that statement unless it
is false! Is it? To me it is a sad
state of affairs to hear preachers
criticize those of us who are still
preaching the Bible, telling men
how to be saved, how to live the
Christian life, and how to wor-
ship God in spirit and in truth.
Then upon inquiry I find that the
critical preacher last Sunday used !
the worship Service for the pro- j
sentation of a purely secular play,!
a musical recital, or a book re- i
view. Those things are fine in I
their place, but the worship scr- j
vice is not the place for them. It j
is no wonder men are not spirit-
ual. Such as I have above men-
tioned do not make men spiritual !
like preaching-the gospel to them j
and encouraging them to worship [
as the Bible teaches.
Churches should not vie with
each other to see who can have
the finest building: the highest
paid, most educated preacher1; or
who can carry the largest budget.
Friends, these various designs
have captured the minds of many
church leaders. A blind man can
see that infidelity, modernism and
skepticism are the results.
