The Pierce family held a reunion at Oklahoma, Jeff McMaster and Daniel
Bogata Community Center recently.
They enjoyed a covered dish lun-
cheon with lots of visiting and catch-
ing up on family news.

six month deployment to the Persian
Gulf and Indian Ocean aboard the
guided missile destroyer USS John
S. McCain.
As part of the Middle East Force,
Phillips was one of the 335 sailors
who completed the warship's maiden
deployment that covered more than
30,000 miles.
Phillips' ship spent 102 days in the
Persian Gulf serving as an escort to
amphibious Readiness Group help-
ing them enforce U.N. sanctions
against Iraq.
Phillips' ship is one of the most
powerful warships ever put to sea.
The computer based AEGIS weap-
ons system is the heart Of the ship's
war fighting capability. It centers
around a powerful radar that enables
the crew to detect, track and fire on
more than 100 targets at the time.
The 1992 graduate of DeKalb High
School of DeKalb, Texas joined the
Navy in June 1992.

Gene, Marvie and Kristi Goates
and Sherran Bell have returned home
from vacationing for two weeks in
Florida and the Bahamas.
They took a cruise on the "Big Red
Boat". While on the cruise they made
a stop at Nassau and Port Lacaya
where Gene and Kristi enjoyed snor-
keling and Marvie and Sherran en-
joyed shopping and a ride on a glass
bottom boat.
During the trip they visited the
Kennedy Space Centei, and in Or-
lando they enjoyed Magic Kingdom,
Epcot Center, Polynesian Luau, Ara-
bian Knights and the beach. They
report a wonderful time but were
glad to be back home.

meeting with prayer.
Mr. Wade expressed his apprecia-
tion to all who attended and recog-
nized special gqests, Talco-Bogata
school board members-Kip Stansell,
Ricky Franks and Mark Hare and the
Talcq-Bqgata newspaper represen-
tative, Nancy Brdwn. Mr. Wade com-
mented on the TAAS scores from
each school. Talco received accept-
able, Bogata received recognized and
Rivercrest received exemplary.
Mr. Wade stated how well each
school performed and plans for each
school to do even better this year.
The new employees and employ-
ees with new positions were intro-
duced to the group. They were; at

Jerry Hutson, small son of Mr

River County Genealogical Society
Martha Sue Stroud spoke about the
book she is collecting information to
publish, "Remembering" "A history
of Red River County in Northeast
Texas". It will be an interesting and
informative book with information
about towns in the county.

interesting program on "Family His-
tory Numbering systems". Mrs. Gable
is a noted speaker from the area.
Viewing of slides and books further
enhanced the speech.
The society was delighted that a
capacity crowd was in attendance for
the August meeting. Meetings are
held the second Monday of each
month at the Red River County Li-
brary at 7:30 p.m.
