Benefit for Jim Smith sees
over 700 people in attendance
Over 700 people turned out Sun-
day, March 10 at the Bogata Rodeo
Arena, in support of Jim Smith, former
saddle bronc and bull rider, who was
diagnosed with colon cancer l^st year
at age 41.
Among the day's activities were
the rodeo events of bull riding and
cowgirls barrel racing, in addition to
a baked goods and western gear auc-
tion. The day earned $7,034 for Smith.
Rodeo "friends" and townspeople
supported the event in the ultimate
homage to any rodeo cowboy, by
attending the benefit and lending their
time and energy to produce the day’s
events.
Those donating their talents to the
bull riding event as bullfighters were
3-time World Champion Bullfighter
Donny Sparks of Texarkana; CRRA
Champion Bullfighter Donny Smith
ofMt. Pleasant; Stacy Jaynes of Little
Rock, AR; Billy Scoggins of Mt.
Pleasant; Stanley Hart of Paris and
though not "suited up" for the event,
Smith's best friend and former cham-
pion bullfighter, Kyle Bell, who had
traveled from his home in Colorado
to be with Smith.
Acquaintances came from all parts
of Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas to
spend the day with Smith.

To achieve great things, we
must live as though we were
never going to die.
—Vativenargues

provided by several stock contrac-
tors. Over 50 bull riders competed in
the actual competition, along with
