tiered wedding cake, which was
topped with a miniature bride
and groom, was cut by the cou-
ple. They will make their home
at Johntown.

A son born Sept. 6 to Mr. and
Mrs. Leland Sims at a Paris hos-
pital, has been named Robert Al-
len. He is the grandson of Mr.
and Mrs. Boss Suggs of Bogata
and Mr. and Mrs. Gibson Sims of
Paris.
The Dr. R. A. Tate family of
Wichita Falls, formerly of Deport
and Talco, is majoring as a doc-
tor. The daughter, Eugenia, now
Mrs. Charles Gauntt of Kountze,
is a doctor: her husband is also
a doctor and John Tate is in his
senior year of medicine at State
Med. at Galveston.

10 Years Ago
Week of September 1$, 1939
Mrs. J. C. Williams of Rosalie,
was a patient at a Paris hospital
Enrollment at the Bogata school
had reached 362 at the end of the
first week
Mr. and Mrs. W. W. White had
celebrated their tenth anniver-
say at their sandwich shop by en-
tertaining members of-the foot-
ball squad, their coach and many
other friends with a barbecue
dinner.
Officers elected for the senior
class were, president, Ted Crad-
dock; vice-pres., Joyce Ford; sec-
treas., Rebecca Townes; Horace
McCrury was reporter and Hazel
Gray, Virginia Suggs and Doro-
thy Wilkinson were social com-
mittee. Floyd McCrury was spon-
sor.
Merchants had purchased
page ad, boosting the Bogata
Bulldogs in their first game of
the season with the Cumby Tro-
jans.
It was estimated that 85 per
cent of the cotton crop was gath
ered. Lint cotton was selling for
8.10 to 8.85 cents per pound.
Rugby school opened with Sam
H. Moore and Miss Elizabeth Bar-
nett as teachers.
Cunningham FFA chapter had
won sixth place on their exhibit
at the Lamar District Fair,
Fred R. Kimsey, son of M. L.
Kimsey of Hanley, and former
owner of the Bogata News and
Miss Edna Owens of Forney, had
been married at Forney.
Fire, that started from an oil
stove, caught the wallpaper and
damaged the home of Rev. and
Mrs. L. E. Sullivan.
L. C. Rodgers, 54, had died at
his home at Bogata. He had been
a resident years.
Location for the Flesh-Hoot-
kins well, scheduled to be Red
River County’s next wildcat ex-
ploration for oil, had been an-
nounced on the Catherine Bailey
farm between Detroit and Bag-
well.
Pat Dyer, former Talco resid-
ent, had died at Clarksville.
Leases were being assembled
for a wildcat oil test for the Bag-
well area.
Dry goods stores were adver-
tising 20x40 towels two for 25c.
Liza Laspey, aged negress of
Bogata, had died at her home.
She was a pioneer resident.
Marshall Crump and Miss Neva
Murle Keith had been married at
Paris.

Miss Joy Parker has returned
to Palestine to continue her work
with the faculty of Palestine
schools.
Roy Lilley Jr., son of Mr. and

from an extended visit with her

afternoon to enter ETSTC.
Supt. S. O. Loving was unable
to be at school Wednesday be-
cause of a throat infection.

visited Mr. and Mrs. W. H. White-
side in Quitman on Sunday.
J. R. Lee returned Sunday from
Sanitarium of Paris, where he
had been for several weeks.
Mrs. Buford Jones, accompani-
ed by Mrs. O. B. Moon, took Leon
Jones to Lubbock to enter Texas
Tech last Saturday.
Mrs. E. L. Miller and children

lotte visited relatives in Tyler
Sunday through Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Latham,
three sons and grandson of Over-
ton, spent Sunday with their
daughter, Mrs. Leon Kester. and
family.
Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Frye cele-
brated their 21st wedding anni-
versary Sunday. They had din-
ner with her mother, Mrs. J. R.
Lewis.
W. E. Duke’s parents of Hope-
well, Ok., arrived last week to
visit him and family. His mo-
ther left Tuesday to visit in
Prescott, Ark.

Mt. Pleasant, were Sunday guests

Lon Jones to Abilene Monday to
enter Abilene Christian College.

her sister, Mrs. Manuel Allison
and family in Greggton'on Tues-

merce Wednesday where he will

Christi, had undergone an em-
ergency operation at a hospital
there.
Max Womack, son of Mrs. Ray
Womack, left Tuesday to enter
NTAC, Arlington, for his second

Miss Bettye Barton of Browns-
boro, spent the week end with
her sister, Mrs. Clark Garner and

Construction began Tuesday on
a modern five room residence
east of Pine Branch on highway
37 for Mr. and Mrs. Emmett
Moore of Cuthand. R. L. and Paul
Williams are the contractors.
Dean Scoggins, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Homer Scoggins of McCrury,
and stationed at San Antonio Air
Base, is visiting his parents. He
will report at Sheppard Field,
Wichita Falls, at the end of his
furlough.
Billy Skidmore of Dallas, spent
the week end in the home of his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Skid-
more at Pattonville and Mr. and
Mrs. R. L. Fennell. His wife and
sons, Mike and Eddie, who had
spent the week here, returned
