ERIC IS SURPRISED!
Eric Dennis was given a surprise 10th birthday pool
party on June 8. Attending the party were his friends
Jeff, Jeffrey, Brett, Tate, Tony, Christopher and
Matthew. A fun time was had by all. Eric was further
surprised when he left the party and found a new bike
waiting at the door. Have a good 10th year, Eric!
WELCOME TO KLUTZ’S CLUB
Bemie DuLaney was recently painting her home
when the phone rang. While running through the
garage to answer the phone, she fell. Bernie broke two
bones in her foot. Lots of get-well wishes are sent to her
from her family, neighbors and friends. Everyone is
glad your painting arm wasn’t hurt.
FIRST BIRTHDAY
Patricia Alders had her first birthday June 8. A party
was given by her parents Larry and Diana and her sister
Angela. Patricia’s guests included her great-grand-
mother Mrs. C.E. Bazajou of New Orleans, grandpar-
ents Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Randall of Wimberly and
Mr. and Mrs. C.E. Alders of Houston. Cousins Jaclyn
and Adrienne Gold, Aunt Pam and Uncle John Gold of
Wimberly, Gary Wilson and neighbors Clayton and
Adam, with their parents Bruce and Bettye Harris were
also there. Happy birthday!
1 YEAR OLD
Wendy Lee Sullivan, daughter of Wendell and
Debbie Sullivan of Kirkwood, became 1 year old on June
15. A party to help celebrate this special event was

Matthew Scheffer, son of David and Debbie Scheffer
of Scarsdale, became 3 on June 12. He went to Hanna
Barbera Land with his parents, brother Brian and

NEW YORK AND IRELAND
Marian and Harry Larkin, along with their son Mike,
have just returned from a three-week trip to Ireland,
stopping in New York for a week to visit with relatives
in Eastchester. They also visited their children Kathy
and Chuck Wight and grandchildren Noah and Mat-
thew in Rochester. Their daughter Jane joined them in
New York for the last week. The family made a trip to
Niagra Falls and really enjoyed it. The Larkins drove
across Ireland visiting many beautiful historic castles
and places of interest, meeting many interesting people
along the way. Their visit included spending a day with
friends they met last year in Malahide, near Dublin.
KIM IS 21
Kim Schubert, an ’81 graduate of Dobie, will
become 21 years old on June 22. Lots of happy birthday
wishes are sent to Kim from her parents Rudy and
Jennie Schubert of Sagemont, her sisters and from all
her friends. Have a super fun day.
A BABY DAUGHTER
John and Diana Deterling are proud to announce the
birth of their daughter at Southeast Memorial Hos-
pital. Jenna Lynn Deterling made her debut on June 9,
1984, and weighed 6 pounds, 14V2 ounces. Congratu-
lations are sent to John and Diana from their families
and all their friends.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BRENDA
Brenda Bynum, daughter of Shirley Bynum, will
celebrate her 17th birthday on June 22. Love and happy
birthday wishes are sent to Brenda from her mother,

Sagemeadow residents Chuck and Donna Tylka
celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary today, June

Terry Lynn Gammage, an ’84 graduate of Dobie,
became 18 on June 18. Terry, who plans to attend San
Jacinto College in the fall, is sent belated happy

friend Kathy Robbins.

On June 8, 9 and 10, the Dobie Lariaette military
and social officers united to leave their work behind and
concentrate on having a good time at Lake Austin. A
Dog training to begin
fun-filled time was had by all skiing and swimming.
The officers would like to thank all the chaperones who
made it a very enjoyable time: Jim Noble, Beverly
Palmer, Skipper and Carolyn Stevens, Raymond and
Cathy Massey, David and Lajuana LaTouche and of
course the beloved Mike and Patty LaTouche. Also
thanks go to George and Norma Vetters and their
daughter Cindy, plus Tommy and Lucy Thompson for
visiting on Saturday.
SUPER TRACK & SHOWBIZ
Daniel Paling, son of Helen and BUI Paling of
Sagemeadow, celebrated his 12th birthday on June 6. A
party at Super Track and continuing to Showbiz Pizza
was enjoyed by family and friends. Lots of happy
birthday wishes are sent to Daniel from his parents,
sister Pam and from all his friends.
LAUVE FAMILY REUNION
The first Lauve family reunion was held June 8-9 in
Baton Rouge, La. Families attended from Florida,
Georgia, Ohio, Louisiana, Illinois, Mississippi, Texas
and Utah. Ages ranged from 10 weeks to 90 plus, with
170 persons attending. Family researchers have traced
the Lauve family back to 1721. Sagemont residents Don
and Francis Lauve planned and sponsored this reunion.
A cousin, Celeste King of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., was a
house guest of theirs, following the successful reunion.

Beverly Hills resident Mike VanMeter, owner of
DRH Plumbing, really has some “hot” fire ants in his
back yard. Ask him about the real hot time he had
recently.
JACQUELINE IS 1
Jacqueline Marie Nugent, daughter of Richard and
Victoria Nugent, became 1 year old on June 18. Victoria
is the children’s librarian at Bracewell Library. Lots of
love and happy birthday wishes are sent to this little

child has hit an “over-the-fence” home run to please

Chris Cook of the 5-pitch Phillies hit his third home
run of the season on June 11, against the White Sox.
Steve Quinn of the colt Cardinals hit his third home
run in last weeks’ playoff game.
In the same playoff, Bobby Taylor hit his second
home run of the season.
Nick Medina hit the scoreboard for a grand-slam
home run for the Dobie American Legion.
Thomas Thompson, who plays for the minor Phillies,
hit a grand slam home run against the minor Red Sox.
Reynaldo Trevino of the major Vikings hit a home
run.
Congratulations are sent to all these sluggers from
their coaches, teammates, families and all their friends.
10 YEARS OF BASEBALL
The following boys were recognized at closing
ceremonies of the South Belt Pony-Colt baseball league
for completing their 10th and final session at the Choate
Road ballpark Saturday: Johnny Bolen, Artie Johnson,
Kevin Peterson, Shawn Richmond, John Sones, Marc
Taylor, Trey Taylor, Mark Ward and Ken Wilson. The
nine boys played T-ball the year the ballpark opened.
The ’84 PHILLIES
Congratulations to the 1984 Phillies. They have
shown excellent team work and support for each other
and outstanding spbrtsmenship. A very special thanks
goes to coach A1 Nieto, assistant coach Pat Doshocil,
team rep Don Andrus, favorite announcer Darrel Black,
Mr. Womell, Mr. Leach, Mr. Mahannay and Mr.
Perales. Patricia Thompson, team mother, would like
also to thank all her parents; she couldn’t have done it
without them. There is still a long way to go with the
tourney coming up. Good luck in the up-coming
tournament.

serve on the Senate Sub-
committee on Educational
Quality. The committee
will consider education re-
forms in the public school
system, including voca-
tional education, extracur-
ricular activities and par-
enting education during
the current special legisla-
tive session in Austin.
In addition to the sub-
committee on Educational
Quality, committees were
formed to consider reforms
in teaching, finance, and
organization and manage-
ment. Proposals endorsed
by these committees will
be recommended to the full
Senate as part of a final
public education plan..
Hearing began June 11,
and Brown invites inter-
ested parties to appear be-
fore the committees.
