not know tfie extent of the storm,
as we have not bqpn able to hear

pretty strong in town, but we
have heard of no serious damage.

Judge McClellan has adopted
some good rules j for the ..court
house, and is haying them en-
forced. He -allows no smoking
during the sessions of court; he
requires that the lawyers who
aremot engaged in cases that are
being tried sit down, and not
to talk out loud; he requires the
people to keep out of the win-
dows and from crowding onto
the jpry. These are good rules
and their enforcement is neces-
sary for the transaction of the
business of the court.

Two years ago the salocjni men
notified the people through the
public prints that on themorn-
iug of March 10, 1895, the cam-
paign for 189(^would commence.
They have worked faithfully, but
they are in for another twb years’
campaign to commence on the
morning of March 14, lbfllr. Pan
nin county is not ready to be' run
regret his present condition..
Rev. H. F. Jones, of Ector, filled his
regular appointment here on Saturday
and Sunday last. As usual the house
was filled to overflowing.
On next Saturday, in my humble-
judgment, we, as true citizens of Fan-
nia county, who are loyal to the law of
the land, and who favor raising the
standard of morality to a higher plain
or level, shpuld go to the polls and cast
our vote for the la*, as it now stands;
therefore, when we shall have done so,
even if we go down in defeat, our con-
science will be at ease.

It Can be so in Fannin.
The following letter sufficiently
explains itself:
Van Alstyne, Tex., )
March 10th, 1897. \
Hon. P. C. Thurmond, Bonham, Tex:
Sir:—lam informed that,you
are interested in the cause of
phohibition, and J see that you
are soon to vote on that ques-
tion, therefor^ I,' unsolicited, in-
close a statement of facts signed
by only a few. Could' get any
number to sign it .if I had time.
I have been in court 'since the
2nd until last night, I was a
witness in sixteen local option
cases. I know what I am talking
about, and I say it will prohibit.
We have sent to jail two' men
living in the^finest houses of the
town, one of them worth’many
thousand dollars, has one black
land farm of 500 acres, and has
other lands, business property,
brick and frame, also residence
to rent. He has the “dough,”
but it did not effect our officers.
We did have six joints—to-day.
we have not one. Most of them
begged to have all prosecutions
stopped, after »they had been
stuck in two Cases, with the
promise to quit for ever; if npt
then they* are to be tried in the
casespending or continued. It
is a howling success in these
poris. Our, twb judges and
county attorney are1 anties, but
they are law-abiding. What
Garyson does, Fannin ca^ do. .1
wish you success.

H. F. Moore.

some interesting times. The
young ladies meet with them,
and render some very interesting
essays and recitations] while the
men mak^ speeches. .Some who
thought at the start that they -
would not vote at alt, are now
enthusiastic and are working
for prohibition. At Ash Grove,
near here, there is a zealous-club,
numbering ninety, who are work-
ing heart aud hand for the cause.
We will try to do the very best
we can, and look for gooaas the
result And in this part of the
county there are the highest
encomiums passed upon the Bon-
ham News for the part it has
taken and the good it is accom*
piishing. One of out leading
men said a few days ago that he
admired the editors of the
News more with each issue. He
had watebpd the .paper closely
aud had never known,them to
take any but the right side of
every issue, always on the side of
morality and truth, and in such a ‘
manner that no offense was in-
tended, and it was a paper that
our county might well be proud
of. Another said it was the best
secular paper he ever saw, and
that he didn’t think he was able
Co take it for awhile, but it had
endeared itself to him Arntfi he
couldn’t get along without it.
I give these to let ypn know
how the paper is appreciated,
and this is the uniyersal senti-
ment. Long may tho dear old -
News flourish. A^nt Fannie.;
