touches to them.
Reader told us the other day that
a number of folks in this section
were living from one to five years
behind and that some effort ought
to be made on the part of these to
try and get out of debt by following
other pursuits in which there is more
money to be realized, especially in
regards to laising the living at home.
The News knows of no better method
than by diversification and what we
mean by that is to get a few Jer-
seys, hogs, Chickens and raise some-
thing in the crop line besides cot-
ton. The fellow that devotes all his
^ime to cotton nine times out of ten
has his money spent before the crop
| is gathered. If you don’t believe it
just look around and see.
Folks are queer beings. We heard
a man say the other day that if
Hoover was elected the country would
go to the dogs, that the Republicans
would steal everything even to the
capitol. Too bad that conditions
are in such a muddle according to
this brother’s way of looking at it.
Hut it doesn’t make any difference
who is President, graft and corrup-
tion will go on just the same.

Republicans have won out the coun-
try will surely go to the dogs and
that more graft and corruptness will
be practiced than ever before. Let’s
not hope for the worst but the best.
To those- whose Presidential can-
•didate failed to come out ahead in
the recent election, no use to worry
about it. The people have decided
and we should be content to make
the best of it. Just think, it could
tiave been worse.
Doss ought to be ashamed of him-
self, to think that he would go back
on his namesake. But he did never-
theless and says he is not the least
bit sorry that he supported Hoover.
The Cow, Sow und Hen are the
salvation of this country and more
interest should be manifested in these
live products of the farm instead of
planting so much cotton. These 3
items alone will make the farmer a
K°°d living.
Business the past few days has
been very good in Ladonia taking
■everything into consideration, and
•nerchants say it is iquch better than
they have expected. The cool weath-
er that has visited this section has
helped to stimulate business.
When the election returns started
coming in Tuesday night a few post-
masters in this part of North Texas
not over a hundred miles from La-
donia got pretty shaky but they
livened up about ten o’clock wh“n
later reports came in over radio.
Of course, they had a reason to feel
a little indisposed, it meant some-
thing to them later on down the
line. But it won’t happen this time.
The News has secured a corres-
pondent at Pecan Gap who has prom-
ised to send in the items from that
progressive little town on the east.
It seems the News has been unable
to get anyone to write from that
point, and we trust the young lady
^ who has consented to send these items
will make them interesting and keep
up the good work. We shall not di-
vulge her name.
All the campaign bunk out on
Hoover and Smith was bull pure
and simple. If either was one ten-
th as bad as reports were current
neither should occupy the highest
Rift that can be bestowed upon a
candidate in this country, that of
being President.
More lights are certainly needed
in the business section of Ladonia.
If there were several lights around
the city plaza the old town would
certainly take on ii different appear-
ance after dark. Let’s hope that
some plan will be derived in which
a better lighting system can be real-
ized some day.
Sunday will be a big day in La-
donia and one in which all should
pause long enough to pay homage
to the boys who were instrumental :
in helping bring to a close the. most
gigantic struggle in the world’s his- |
tory. The News wonders if folks as
a whole appreciate what the ex-ser- i
vice boys did for the country in help- j
ing win the gigantic struggle. Give
them the glad hand of welcome here
at the district meet Sunday and let
them know that you are glad they
are meeting in our little city.
Ed Smith has changed his office
at the Chevrolet House, moving it
against the north side of the wall.
We can’t figure out why Ed would
pull a stunt like that unless he lost in
an election bet. And that might have
been the cause.

One of the most comfortable fea-

Gold Weather
Washington.—How much water
will remain permanently in the fire
proofing insulation used in safes is
under test by the United States bu-
reau of standards.
This water is both free and com-
bined with the fire proofing mater-
ials. The bureau announces that
safes put under fire tests soon af-
ter they have been filled with in-
sulation lose water by evaporation
amounting to 300 to 600 pounds for
the larger safes. This is equivalent
to 35 to 70 gallons each.
The temperature and humidity of
heated buildings tend to effect slow
water evaporation from safe insula-,
ting materials, and the bureau is
working to discover the water weight
loss to be expected over a period of
several years.
