Senate considers lyric change
The Alumni Board has voted to
change the wording of ACU's alma
mater from "Oh Dear Christian
College" to "Oh Abilene Christian"
Students' Association president
John Tyson told the Student Senate
Monday night.
Tyson said that only the Senate's
approval is needed before the
change is made.
"Changing the words would make
the song more Intimate and per-
sonal" Tyson said. "Besides we
are a university and not a college."
The topic was tabled until next week
to allow Senate members to seek
out student opinions on the
proposed song change.
"Victory in Jesus" is the theme for
a rally scheduled to begin Friday at
7 p.m. in Moody Coliseum an-
nounced sophomore senator Steve
Bishop spiritual life committee
leader.
Five men will speak at the rally
said Bishop. The Hillcrest Church of
Christ is overseeing the rally but it
is sponsored by the Abilene
Churches of Christ he added.
Also Bishop said that ap-
proximately 1 30 students attended
the Mission Outreach retreat last
weekend at Lake Cisco Christian
Camp.
Bishop also said attendence has
been good at the devotionals on
Tuesday nights on the Ad-
minstration building steps and
encouraged everyone to attend. In
case of rain the devotionals will
move into the Campus Center he
added.
In other Senate business senior
class president Ricky McCall
proposed that meetings for class
officers be changed to Wednesday
nights after church services. McCall
said "There might be better at-
tendance at the meetings if they
were held in the Administration
Building where those who needed
to could go straight to club af-
terwards." Senior class vice president Mark
Lowe coordinator of the SA en-
tertainment committee said the SA
probably came close to meeting its
expenses after showing the movie
"Fiddler on the Roof" Saturday
night.
Lowe also announced that the SA
will show the movie "Sleeping
Beauty" on Sunday evening in
Cullen Auditorium. He also said that
the SA will show "The Electric
Horseman" on Oct. 3.
Mary Lee Holton coordinator of
special activities said Sadie
Hawkins Week will be Oct. 9-12.
The theme for the week will be
"Sadie '75: Celebrating a Common
Pursuit."

Band getting in lots of practice
for football game performances
ACU's Big Purple Band is looking at
another football season with anticipation
of possibly its best start in recent memory
said Dr. Charles Trayler director of the
band.
Preparation is the key to the Big Pur-
ple's good fortune he said. By this time
last year the band had already performed
at three football games and one parade
making preparation a real problem. The
Big Purple has been rehearsing its show
music and marching steps for Saturday's
football game since Aug. 27.
'The 240-member band will perform at
five home football games this semester
and will travel to San Angelo for the ACU-
Angelo State University clash.The main
theme of this year's performances will be
ACU's 75th Anniversary celebration.
The band's general style will be
measurably different from previous years
said Trayler. The new corps-style stride
step will be incorporated in the Big Pur-
ple's performances resulting in a more
precision drill and a fuller musical sound.
The colorful flag corps will add a
tremendous sense of pageantry to the Big
Purple's performances he added.
