Joan Graves Named
KHS Drum Major
Joan Graves, daughter of Dr.
and Mrs. John Graves, last
week was elected drum major
for Kermit K Band, according
to G. T. Gilligan, band director.
Brenda Clark was runner-up.
Out-of-town judges, Gilligan
said, select two candidates for
drum major and band members
make the final selection.
Gilligan also announced twirl-
er try-outs are slated for todaj
(Monday).
Councilmen were told by
Wade Howell of the Odessa
engineering firm of Kenneth
E. Esmond and Associates re-
cently.
In addition to the Walton
Adition project, city officials
are also considering either a
hot-mix overlay program or
seal coating on Winkler Street
from Tornillo to Poplar
Streets; Bryan Street from
Mulberry to Oak Street; Oak
Street from Campbell Street to
Austin Street. Also, plans
presently call for refinishing
of the base and putting down
a one-inch hot overlay on
Houston and Bryan Streets
from Oak Street to Poplar
Street.
“We are planning on seal
coating the greater num-
ber of streets,” Willingham
said. The engineers have re-
ported work should be done
on Martin, Robinson, Mag-
nolia, Bellaire, Myer Lane,
Jeffee Drive, Amelia, Camp-
bell Streets and Avenue A
and Waco Street.
There are also a number
of areas where drainage
problems, particulary at in-
tersections, are to be cor-
rected in the program, the
city manager added.
Willingham said the final
plans for the street program
have not been completed.
“Our engineers are still work-
ing on them. Actually, the big
question is how far we
should go with our paving and
resurfacing program at this
time.”
He said plans are expected
to be complete early next
month and, after Council ap-
proval, a call for bids on the
work will probably be made
sometime in late May.
