Talent As Comic
In Latest Picture
A show business legend at 27,
Elvis Presley now reveals a
facet of his talent which will
surprise his fans and win him
many new ones. Starring in
“Follow That Dream,” Elvis
plays a naive and girl-shy coun-
try boy — displaying a sense
of timing that proves him as
compelling a comic as he is a
singer. Filmed in Florida, “Fol-
low That Dream” co-stars Ar-
thur O’Connell, Anne Helm, Jo-
anna Moore, Jack Kruschen,
and is shown in Panavision with
Color by DeLuxe.
Born in Tupelo, Miss., Pres-
ley was raised in Tennessee,
and says he cannot remember
a time when he wasn’t singing
something. He learned to ac-
company himself on a $2.98
mail order guitar his father
sent for. While still in high
school, the boy journeyed to

Miles in Month
Kermit Police Department
vehicles traveled more than 13,-
000 miles during April in patrol-
ing the city. The mileage report
was made by Police Chief Bill
Oldham to City Manager How-
ard Willingham.
In addition to the miles put
on vehicles in patroling the city,
officers made 27 arrests and
issued 35 tickets for various in-
fractions of the law.
Sixteen thefts were reported
to the Police Department, the
report showed, and there were
four instances of breaking and
entering. A total of 18 accidents
was investigated by officers
during April.
The Chief’s report also show-
ed 15 fire calls during the 30-day
period. Eight youths were turn-
ed over to the juvenile officer
and five cases were handed to
county authorities. Dispatchers
also handled 250 telephone com-

ord Company and a year and a
half later Sun president Sam
Phillips called him back to
make the other side, “Blue
Kentucky Moon.” The night the
record was played on the air,
station WHBQ received 14 tele-
grams and 47 phone calls. Dur-
ing the following week, 7,000
of the pressings were sold in
Memphis alone. Quickly routed
on a personal appearance tour,
Presley suddenly found himself
a celebrity. Soon RCA Victor
bought his contract . . . and the
rest is history.
Elvis Presley has sold 90,-
000,000 records! The number
and devotion of his fans is in-
credible. Even while in the
Army he led the recording field.
He made one TV appearance—
with Frank Sinatra, who also
sings a little — and for it re-
ceived $150,000 . . . and a lot of
kidding from ‘The Voice.”
But it is Presley’s films at
which everyone marvels most.
Just his name on a marquee
assures the theatre of capacity
crowds for weeks. Starting with
“Love Me Tender” Elvis made
eight more, developing his nat-
ural acting style and emerging
in “Follow That Dream” as a
first-rate comedian.
